Digital Camera Recommendations

Tue Dec 24, 2002 3:08 am

Can anyone recommend a good digital camera in the 300-500$ range. It's for a friend of mine and not for aviation photography, so it doesn't need to have a long zoom lens.

Thanks

Sorry, but I never worked at Best Buy or any other electronic store.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Canon A40. About $249 at Best Buy. 2.0mp, only about a 3x optical zoom. I did some research for a friend who wanted something small, and not expensive. It seemed to be a good camera for family stuff, and photos at parties or everyday things. Turns out my company just bought 6 of them, I like them.

Staffan,

Check out the Canon S40... a tad more expensive then the A40, but it is 4MP and very very sharp...

Is 3.2 megapixels good? I'm getting a Cannon Digital Camera for Christmas and I'm wondering if it will be good enough to make photos for a.net.

For $499 (Unless the price has changed) you can get the Olympus C720UZ with 8x optical zoom and 3MP. But it has painfully slow autofocus and performs poorly in low-light conditions on the whole.

Try: Canon G2 Powershot
Canon S30
Olympus C-700UZ or C-720UZ

Your best bet in my opinion is to go with the S30.

And yes, Boeing4ever, 3.2 is plenty.... The C-700UZ only has 2.something and many excellent photos taken from that camera are on here.

That's great news Skyguy. I hope to get down to ORD soon to collect some images. I'll start off slow and gain some experience. I hear to takes trial and a lot of error.

Continental- are you doing that to spite me??  Big grin Big grin Big grin

And for the record ,that webpage of yours doesnt have the C700  Big grin

If you buy from El Store of JBLU, you get the following:
_________________________________
C700UZ Digital Camera (and everything that came in the box)
64MB Card
128MB Card
Case
Card/Battery Holder
Battery Recharger w/ 4 rechargible batteries
Lens cleaning kit
_________________________________
All that together would easily cost over 500USD, but not at El Sotre of JBLU!

$375.00 USD plus shipping

And I am dead serious- The camera is not the worlds easiest to use and I dont have the patients to figure it out. Ive had it since August, and it is factory refurbished (but you would never know it).

Anyway- hope this is what your friend is looking for!

By the way, I did a currency conversion, and with shipping, I would estimate the total cost being:

$415.00 USD (<-- American dollars)

257.00 GBP (<-- British Pounds)

3,599.00 SEK (<-- Swedish Kronor)

I got a Canon A40 for Christmas for snapshots and I have to say I'm mightily impressed by it considering its only a 2.0 Megapixel camera. Excellent image quality for the price range, strong flash (IMO), black and white and sepia image functions aswell as a reasonably good movie mode. Best thing is it comes with a cable to connect it to your TV so its great for showing friends and family huge images without any delay. Plus at about €350 its a bargain!

Cheers,
Martin

JBLUA320, I'll be damned, it doesn't!! But wow, $419 for a new C730UZ, wow, I'd recommend that one!! Look, seriously, this is one hell of a deal:

OneCall.com: $599.00
1-877camcorder.com: $538.77
ccccamerahouse.com: $1150.00 (possibly they're smoking?)
digitallydiscovered.com: $445.00
CCICAMERACITY.COM $419.99

Look for Kevin Wacther's photos, and look at the quality! CCIcameracity.com is reliable, I ordered from them, and got a good deal. This camera is great! Their products are also brand spankin' new! This should seriously be your only option with such a good price!
