What's The Deal?

Tue Dec 31, 2002 4:16 pm

I don't do sideshots but I tried one yesterday it was rejected. Since I don't know much about sideshots, can someone help me understand why this is rejected? Rejected for badmotiv.

I just saw a mediocre-quality pic an A330 landing at ATL with those trashy ATL buildings in the background. One can't help but wonder...

Thanks

Indeed, the fence...

Go to the fence, buy a big ladder and take pictures over it...  Big grin

You asked for a reason. You got one. It fits the criteria for bad motive. Nothing I can do about that  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Indeed the fence is the problem. 50mm profile shots are not so easy as most of people think right?  Big grin

But don't loads of shots get accepted with the fence in the way. Is the double standards argument going to rise again?

But in defence of that picture you can see all of it, albeit a little way off. There isn't anything in the way. I would guess that the real problem isn't things behind but things in front that make the screeners look twice. However there are a good few pictures which has the view of the aircraft obstructed by something. Maybe the ruling has changed and you are just unfortunate. I know, however, that I would prefer to see all photographs without anything in the way but that is just my personal preference.

Maybe, I'm not sure. If I were the owner of this site, I know what type of photos I would not accept but I'm not so I can't control that.

badmotiv sounds about right - the fence is the problem. Objects behind an airplane are rarely an issue (if they were, all we'd ever have on the database would be flying shots), but when something obscures even a part of the subject, badmotiv is always a possible outcome although not necessarily a foregone conclusion as other issues can then come into play. This particular picture's case isn't enhanced either by the fact that its a United 777 (pretty common subject matter generally, and already 18 pictures of N779UA in the database).

Andy

PS: Shawn, whatever happens to your own photographs, its still considered bad form to criticise other photographs in the database

There are few AF A330 shots in the DB and there are tons of UAL 777s in the DB.
Fence in the shot - no need to add another one.

Yeah, I think the fence kinda kills it. I'm going to have the same problem when I take shots of the 340-600 doing touch and goes here...damn fences, i wish I lived in AMS...

BTW, why aren't more of you photogs hangin in Shawns chatroom on MIRC? #aviationphotography
I'm almost all alone in there!  Sad

Shawn,

I know where you took that from. If you cross the road and stand on a ladder, I'll send you a file to escape from jail with.

Seriously, if you want some side shots, go up to 96th ave, then south past the Continental hanger to near where the Sky Chefs building is. A little further from the runway, but the fence is less of an issue.
