JFK/LGA/EWR/PHL Area Spotters

Tue Jan 07, 2003 4:24 am

Hello all. I am new to the A.Net forum and thought I would say hello. My name is Sean Russell. I am currently living in Princeton, NJ, USA. I just got into aviation photography last February and have been hooked ever since. I've only spotted at JFK, EWR, PHL, MCO, TPA, MIA, STL, BDL this year. I hope to go abroad in the next year or so. I was wondering if any of the local guys in the area get together. I've seen a few of you on here and some of the great photos you've taken over the years. I'd be interested in getting together sometime to spot and shoot. Anyway, I hope to have a few shots up here in the near future. My first two got rejected of course. Gotta learn how to use Photoshop a bit better.....  Big grin  Big grin

Glad to meet everyone!

Moose ... I suppose the same Moose from JetCollector? Welcome to A.net. I was wondering when you'd show up here. Occasionally some of the area spotters do get together depending of course on availability and lots of other circumstances. You'll occasionally see some messages on A.net advising of a get together or, perhaps, get an e-mail from one or more of your contacts.

Sun King (from JetColletor) and I get together quite often to spot at EWR and are hoping to make it over to JFK one day soon.

Welcome aboard. Don't worry about getting that first pic accepted. It will come.

Hey Art. Yes, it's me. The infamous Moose. I was here once before but I've been incognito since the EWR Show back in Sept.  Big grin I did tell Mike I would bring him to JFK with me. Ed goes first though. Then Mike. If you're interested I can take you out too provided you don't already have access. I don't remember. We could probably do EWR again if I make a call. Anyway, I'm glad to be here and would love to hit any airport with you guys.

Hey, Moose, thought it was you. Anytime you want to go to JFK let me know. I don't have access. It's not like it was in the 70's. EWR is good almost anytime. I'm only 25 minutes away. Anytime you want to meet up let me know.

Art,

No problemo man. We'll try to get somethings going in the near future for up there. I've been working so much and haven't had the time the past 4 or so months. Damn the fourth quarter, you know?

Greg,

Sounds like a plan man. I don't know how many people are here from the area so lets see how many we get a response from and go from there. Sounds like it'll be a blast!

Moose you old tart,

Seeing as I can't make Miami now, let me know when you're arranging a get together in NYC, and I'll come over. i trust that its more than just aeroplanes that will be obligatory - a few beers are a mandatory agenda item too! Big grin

Greg,

This Saturday might work for me. I'll be sure to check the other forum for the news. I'll get back to you about the weekend. We should see if we can round anyone else up.

Andy,

What can I say. I told you earlier I was tired of working so hard and wanted to get back into the swing of things. What better way than to stir the pot on A.Net to find more people to spot with?

Have a good night everyone.

Anytime Mike. My friends from A.net are always welcome ... all I need to know is when. Next time I'm gonna try hard to lay my hands on a PC projector so we can project digital pictures the same as slides. We've got them at work so I should be able to get one FedEx'd to the house for a weekend sometime. With MIA this week and a few more trips coming up soon we should have plenty to see.

Mike, will you be in MIA this weekend? Hopefully I'll see you there. Arriving late Friday night and staying through until Tuesday night.

Ok ok... I admit it Sean, I'm one of the NYC boyz.  Big grin
If any of you ever do make it to one of Art's slides shows, beware... his vicious Pugs are slide eaters!  Acting devilish

First, how did it become Art's Slide Show? They're Joe's slide shows and I was just fortunate enough to host one of them so us Jersey guys had an easy go of it one night. And, as I said in response to Mike, I'm ready to host anytime. No problem with that.

Now, Los you be nice to my Pugs! But, you are right about the one (Kaylie) ... she has been known to eat some of my slides. Thankfully, they were only the garbage slides that I left carelessly laying around. What can I say she likes airplanes just like me! Oh, you didn't mention Asia, the Shar Pei. She's no problem with slides, but she does eat people! Large chunks of course.

Mike,

I just learned something interesting. Kaylie, the slide eater must take after her Daddy. I was just outside with her when a EWR arrival came over at about 3,000'. She heard that distinct whine of the engine and immediately began looking in the sky for the plane. She found it and kept her eye on it until it disappeard behind the house. Now if I could only teach her to take pictures ... A.net would have it's first submission from a DOG!

Oh, and a way to get around spending that $1,000 for a Pug. Check your local shelters. They might just have one for adoption. Given the popularity of the MIB II movies last summer with Fred the Pug a lot of people probably went out and bought Pugs. Some of them should be hitting the shelters about now. Some people are stupid. They have no idea what they are getting themselves in for when they buy a puppy and get disenchanted after a few months. So, you see, you can get that Pug and still get the camera!

We adopted Kaylie through a friend. She was purchased by a group of 11 college girls in Boston and they all graduated in June and scattered. The puppy was left with this one young girl who couldn't keep her so we adopted her. She was only 14 months old when we got her so she still had (and has) a lot of that puppy in her (you saw when you were here). I do envy her. Imagine living in a house with 11 college girls!

Gee Art... must be TERRIBLE to live with 11 of those. Wish I was the dog!  Big grin

Anyways... regarding the slide shows. When they are held at Joe's pad they are "Joe's slide show", when they are held at your palatial estate they are called "Art's slide show"... so on and so forth with whoever hosts them.

Art,

Thanks for the info. I'll have to go on a pug hunt soon so my 1,000's of slides can remain in the house  Smile
