Is It Possible To Win An Appeal?

Sun Jan 19, 2003 1:12 pm

Hello,

Is it actually possible to win an appeal? I cant and by reading some posts in the last few days other people cant either. I think that it is just a unless feature!

Matt,
I have appealed a few before. Some made it, some didn't.

It is possible, but figure the odds are against you. The screeners are following guidelines set by Johan as to what is and what is not acceptable. So when you get a rejection it is in line with his desires. Since you are appealing to Johan...well...

I think he has an open mind and does on occasion overrule the screeners, but not often. Best bet is just move on to the next photo.

Cheers.. Tony

Yes, there is a chance. But you have to have a very good reason indeed.
I had one appeal work, and that was only because another screener on another picture I uploaded on the same day set a precedence that invalidated the rejection reason (it was rejected for esthetics, another shot with the exact same composition, lighting, sharpness, colour ballance, everything of a different aircraft of the same manufacturer in the same livery was accepted).

Just looking at the appeals lists, it seems that somewhere between 5% and 10% of appeals are accepted.

That simply means that people are a little to quick to appeal rather than looking critically at their photos and deciding whether or not they could be better.

Yup. If it wouldn't be possible, why bother and design the whole function in the first place? But indeed, it's very unlikely that you'll get your appealed pictures accepted.

According to the message that appears on top of the appeal page, it seems that a lot of photographers are using this function way too often. Some photographers probably appeal every single picture that gets rejected, just to have one very last opinion.

Anyway, since the appeal function was introduced, I've only used this function on two rejected shots. Needless to say that both of them got rejected by Johan as well Big grin But anyway, 2 pictures out of a couple of hundred is not too much I think.

I got my appeals looked at yesterday (after five weeks), and while I accept the bosses decision, what I didn't like so much was that while I spent some time finding the right words why they should be reconsidered, you then just get a simple rejection "The photos are of low quality". Maybe the load of appeals is too high for individual feedback, but yet I would have appreciated it.

And being a screener doesn't help either. I just lost one!

AA 777, I used to appeal more photos than needed, but I find it a lot easier to correct (if correctable) than have the boss give it the hammer!

But out of 8 appeals I had 3 accepted, and I still don't agree with 4 of those. I'll show you the photos if you guys want to see them.....

Yes it is possible. I had 3 on appeal and 1 borderline which was left for Johan to decide - so that makes 4 for Johan, and i got two accepted (my two most recent uploads).

Yes. I'm 1 for 1 so far Big grin

I thought I had a good case and fortunately Johan agreed with me. I haven't appealed since, rather I've had a critical look at a rejected shot and either binned it or made adjustments where possible.

For what it's worth I'm also 1 for 1 on re-submissions since that appeal.

Cheers,
Dean
