Watch Out! End Of The Runway! What A Picture!

Tue Jan 21, 2003 4:56 am

Hi guys,

I considered posting this in the civil aviation forum but instead i'll post here.

I've been a fan of Sam's work for some time but some of his recent stuff has been mind blowing  Wow!.

Too top it off, One of the scariest photos i've ever seen, of this il86 nearly not making it. This has got to be more interesting even than the CX 747 at Kai Tak taking off late.

Funny how there was another topic on the same subject today!

Here it is if you haven't seen it already folks,

Although the following site hasn't been updated in a while, it has some interesting shots of approaches that didn't go very well:

B744F,

Now you know why you have a respect rating of zero.

This plane looks almost identical to an A340, doesn´t it?

I think you brought up some valid and legitimate points and questions regarding the pictures. However, you are getting flamed because you come out screaming it's a fake. Bringing up your questions about the photo before accusing it of being a fake might better suit you next time.

On a sidenote, the point raised about the white marking at the end/beginning of the runway are good ones. I am in no way saying the photo is (or isn't) a fraud, I have no professional photography knowledge. In one photo there are five and another there are six. Does anyone know if there was a widening of the runway between the time the pictures were taken?

FrequentFlyKid
The "piano keys" are touch down zones to aim at, not indicating where the concrete starts. On normal runways it starts 200-300 meters further down the runway.

In the other thread it is obvious that since 2001, the runway end has been resurfaced. Its black asphalt as opposed to the poured concrete in the 2001 photo. Furthermore, there are many airport runways that do not respect the 5+5 or 6+6 rule regarding runway width.

There may not even be a rule in Thailand.... and why would Sam fake the width of the runway anyway, increase hits???  Laugh out loud

For this matter I have supplied proves, a 5 shot series for the IL96 takeoff roll.

Go to

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/aviation_photography/read.main/77317/

I here stressed that the shot is NOT fake, you simply don't make such bold and proveless statement, unless you are shooting with me together, then you know the truth. No one will trust a gutless man by not even provided his real name here.

I hereby, will take all the comments as compliments, as a good shot simply generate attentions.

Sam,

Chill out... All the long-standing photographers on who have contributed to this and the other topic have supported you. The topics should never have been allowed to go as far as they did, but as they have just be happy in the knowledge that those who matter have supported you outright, and the low-life who has accused you seems to have disappeared back into the woodwork. A salutory lesson for others who seek to unjustly criticise, I hope.

As Andy has said Sam, there are a number of regular contributers who produce excellent work, one of these is you.

All us photogs know that you wouldnt not fake a photo and that there is nothing in it for you to do so...ignore posts about fakes

Congratulations on a very cool picture. By the way, how long is the runway on which that IL-96 took off?
I also seen a Domodedovo IL-96 in Tenerife in October 2002  Smile

GKirk,

According to the chart that B744F provided a link to in the other topic, the runway at HKT is 3000m/9842ft. Of course, after all the debate it appears that the chart might not quite be as up-to-date as our friendly criticiser thought, so it might just be that the runway's dimensions have changed slightly! Big grin

Once again a very serious breach of faith by the .1 percent of a.net who do not know how to behave themselves. B744F should have done what FrequentFlyKid said he should have done, that is "Bringing up your questions about the photo before accusing it of being a fake might better suit you next time". Questions are fine, calling into question a man's integrity is not cool...
