Underrated Photographers

Wed Feb 12, 2003 12:32 am

I was wondering who you folks thought were some underrated photographers.

I don't have to mention that I think Tom Turner is underrated. My lips are firmly planted on his ass it seems. lol

Another man I would like to give recognition to is Gary Watt, who blows my mind pretty often.

Now, some of you may say that these gentlemen have already been recognized, but I just think they deserve more credit than they get.

Who do you think deserves more credit?

Now, now, don't go mentioning me and any of my three anet pics! lol

I don't think either are underrated. As Gary keeps telling us, he is a 1st class photographer  Smile-D) and Tom gets his fair share of praise from the forum regulars (and I'm sure, like me alot of us have emailed him too...).

Yeah those 2 guys are definitely not underrated....
That 757 pic of Gary is even in the editor's choice section so he is pretty high rated IMO.

Well, some people who I feel are a bit underrated are Yakfreak, and Rolf Wallner, but then again I'm a sucker for those 50mm sideshots Big grin

Seriously underrated I think: Tim de Groot, he is seen as a "ramp shooter" (which I think gives an underrated image) because he is an excellent action shooter too, and I think not too many people know that around here...

(yeah youve guessed, actionshots are my favourites  Smile)

I can assure you Rolf Wallner and Dietmar Schreiber's work isn't under-rated in my slide collection database !!!

It's a shame Tim that more people don't see the light... 50mm shooting is tough stuff, especially to get it "just perfect", and to meet my standards - it's gotta be good!  Smokin cool

Cheers,

@ Shaun:
Don't you see Tim de Groot doesn't really exist, it's just Wietse uploading under a different name Big grin

@Rob:
Many people don't have the chance to get rampaccess and will never ever "see the light".....too bad, and you're right it's very tough to ge the perfect shots, I dare say as difficult as getting perfect actionshots. I do think a perfect actionshots is nicer to look at than perfect rampshots, just my opinion......what AM I saying Big grin

I always love action shot on slides and also ramp and proper side on shoots. Get well on K25 is definity not easy so I went Velvia I admitted. I love slides shooting and have let me D100 down a lot coz I can't get over it.

OK, Underrated? Luis Rosa,. I think he shoot really good ramp shots but prints??

Eddy Gual? How did he manage to get shots on Anet standard while all his slides have grease and hair  Smile

Chris Liao is pretty good too!!

But believe me a lot of good slide shooter you probably never heard of on Anet are actively shooting in the airports and going to slide shows event. They are big name in slide show. Sooner or later you will see their shots in a magazine or book.

Mentioned it in an earlier thread, but Luis Rosa is the "best underrated" photographer IMO

I would like to say Thank you very much to those who enjoy my photos. When I'm shooting planes I try to have fun and shoot for pleasure. It's very relaxing for me to photograph aviation and it's the best way for me to calm down from the daily job stress, better than any medicine. It's a great feeling to be alone at the end of the day in a remote place near the airport, just watching the sunset, blue sky and aircrafts movements. I'm 31 and totally addicted to this  Smile

The most rewarding feeling is to know that other persons like my photos, that gives me a kind of obligation to return something as a way to thank, because I also like to give and not only receive your kind words. I'll try to continue making interesting images just to reflect the fascination I have for the aviation world and this will be my way of giving something and say Thanks, may the screeners agree  Big grin too bad many photos are not displayed due to acceptance criteria.

Luis
P.S. Sam I was shooting prints since 1995 because I'm not into trading photos, trading is a lot of work  Smile
