Good Hotels For Spotting @ EWR?

Sun Feb 23, 2003 3:44 am

Folks,

Going to New York on the 6th of April and looking for some good quality hotels close (very) to Newark airport, eventually a hotel with a nice view of the airport, or approach/departure "routes"..

Anyone?

Thanks
Tom

Tom,
I would suggest the Sheraton or Marriott- preferably upper floors- both should offer nice views of the field.

Edit: Do you know if there is a Express Train of some sort going from EWR to Manhattan during the day hours?

Like Joe said, the Marriott or Sheraton are your best bets, although neither will offer "stunning" views. I've stayed both places within the last 5 years, and both are very nice hotels. You might want to consider the Marriott first though, since it is on airport property....just be sure to get a floor above 8, or else you wont be seeing much.

Also, about the train, here's what you do: take the free shuttle from your hotel to the airport terminal, get on the inter-terminal monorail to Newark Airport Station, buy a ticket at the station and the train will take you right to Penn Station in Manhattan. The trains run fairly often, especially during the weekdays, maybe every 20-30 minutes, and a one-way ticket will cost $11.75 (much cheaper than a cab into the city).

I would have to say Sheraton over Marriot, as far as views are concerned.

As far as the train is concerned- its ridiculously expensive. Both Amtrak and NJ Transit run trains into the city- NJ is about 12- each way but BEWARE! Amtrak is 18.00 each way to the city (NYP Station).

Enjoy your stay in the tri-state area!
