Dmitry Sets A Record!

Wed Feb 26, 2003 10:31 pm

Well Dmitry I must congratulate you on setting a record. Twenty-two (22) photos in one post used to start your Fuji thread.

Not that I really care about the shameless plug value of showcasing your own work, but there is one favor I would really like to request.

Kindly remember that many A.net users still use a DIAL-UP CONNECTION with a 56k modem and as such, your "Reference Library Posting" of all your shots all but brings our systems to a standstill. Add in the other photos posted in the never-ending Koduck vs Fuji wars and that thread has now become all but unreadable on my system.

In future, I ask all posters to kindly restrain themselves when using photos in the threads to a "reasonable number" of images to make your point. Us luddites will thank you for this.

thank you
Steve

Steve ... sarcasm will get you no-where ....
As Sudden quite rightly pointed out, this is an "aviation photography" forum therefore there will be lot's of pics posted.
Steve, i bet if you added up all the times you've showcased all your pics to us it would certainly set yet another record here on the forums  Big grin

Yep its called ADSL.. and the vast majority of people have Cable rather than ADSL (I know we got Cable because ADSL wasn't available to us)..

I in part agree with Steve, remember this forum was created mainly for critique of photos rather than anything else.... Although I don't think the thumbnails take that long to go, I think its quite annoying sometimes when someone blatently posts photo's just to increase popularity..

But thats just me Big grin

Aren't BT launching a new 1mb and 2mb ADSL service? Only condition with it you have to live next door to the exchange or you will be too far down the line to have it.  Smile

Agreed, it was created for critique of photos.

But wasnt it lately we started complaining that everyone was asking questions about pics? I think the forum gets better when there are discussions that go deeper than

"whine... my pic didnt get in, why, its better than the ones that got in?"

I dont care for D's plug, I actually look at all of them (hey, 768kbps DSL helps alot.. Smile)

I wish I had cable, I envy your DSL connection Wietse, mine's only 256kbps. Still faster then a 56k! Big grin

In the UK Blue Yonder does a 1mb connection, we got their 512kps cable nearly a year ago and have never looked back.

I don't even want to think how long it would take to upload with a dial up!

Yeah I have Blueyonder Cable, 512kbps, never thought about 1mb Cable as I don't particularly need it.

I think other discussions are ok but when its just blatent self-promotion I'm not really all in favour of that...

I agree, since two weeks I have also 768 kbps DSL, it is very fast compared to my old ISDN line. Since I have DSL I am looking to a lot more pictures than before.

Steve has a valid point....While I sit here at home with the luxury of a cable connection I did try to log onto anet while on a NY trip using the dial up in my lap top. For most things it is okay, but when someone posts a BUNCH of photos it really bogs down.

Just to be considerate of fellow users I would think you should post no more than one or two anet photos, or just links if it going to open up using the whole page.

Yes, this site is about photography and discussions of, but we don't have to be a##'s about it.

Well, it was 512 kbps, but to make way for a cheapo D$L version (256 kbps) they upped the 768 to a 1mb and the 512 to 768. (free of charge ofcourse)

Hey everybody.... lighten up a little.

I have nothing against Dmitry and we have joshed/teased back and forth before, so here are the rules for this thread.......

1) take tongue
2) plant firmly in cheek
3) enjoy humour
4) smile.

I was just making a point about us poor dial-up Neanderthals who don't have high-speed access and have something less that papal patience.

I would have posted more "thumbs" of your excellent photos - however, I did not want to slow down view time of dial up connectors.  Smile

PS I have cable connection at home (fast) - and I have dial-up in my office (slow - very slow)  Sad

So why try to deny those with quick connection?

My cable connection is currently 3.3megabits per second, down some from when it was new. For almost a year it ran at the max allowed of 8 mb per second. But, as it catches on, it is sure to drop even lower. But for now I am still loving it.

I know what Steve means though, on some of the long posts with a lot of pictures in it, there is a delay, and I would not even open one up with a dial up connection...... I think you can get the point across with just a few shots.

Hello Steve and everybody else!

Well didn't mean to slow you guys down any, but I just wanted to make a point about Green and Yellow. And probably to your amazement, I am on a 56K modem my self, no DSL yet.  Sad

I actually have no problems loading and reading those type of threads, what slows things down is if the replys aren't compressed, then that takes forever!
Also if people post large pictures, not linked.

I'll try to comply in the future!

I realize that this is a photography forum but with every one talking about internet speed this a excellent site to measure that

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Just click on start this test.

You will probably be amazed at your actual speed. I am getting 1.6mb on a cable modem.
Again I apologize about this non photo post

That's the test result:
744.2 kilobits per second well i'm really happy with that...
I've ADSL but i'm in brussels far from the test plant so maybe the speed is faster when close to the server.

Ooh, 4.3kilobits / second - my rating is only poor Big grin

It's amazing I manage to get any photos uploaded at all.....

Here's another speed test site... I'v been told that this one seems to be one of the most accurate sites out there. Just clocked my cable modem at around 1.5MB.
