Pentax Dslr

Thu Feb 27, 2003 10:19 am

At last Pentax have got a DSLR -

Looks like a competive spec - but no mention of price. A big plus for this one is the enormous range of K-mount lenses available - both new and used, so could be a very good option for someone not yet committed to a system and with a tight budget.

Cheers,

Colin

I'm definately going to have to check this out more- I wonder when we'll hear of the price though?

I am going to look into this come summertime. I started out with a Pentax K-1000 25 years ago and still have it working today. I own a Fuji S-602.

Hopfully it will be offered to us for under $1500 USA body only and it comes in black body as well. Ill get a second job to get it. Ive got some nice K-mount lenses.

Regards

How do Pentax K-mount (or other range) lenses mark up compared to Canon 'L' or Nikon 'VR' glass?

Thanks

Asahi Optics, which make the Pentax lenses are excellent and you can get aftermarket lenses from Sigma and Tameron and Tokina.

K mounts are like the Nikon mounts, you can pretty much interchange any of them.

Well there's more and more choice in the DSLR market, I was going for a D100 but well maybe I should wait...
But it's been a while I've been waiting don't know what to buy...
I've read a lot about all those DSLR and i'm getting confused...

Ok thanks. Hypothetical question time: What current Pentax lenses would you favour to accompany this new DSLR, and what would their approximate cost be (Europe) if the body were available right now - I refer to av. photography of course  Smile

Hmmm.

I would offer a suggestion on this but I had just gotten my brand new Sigma 28-135 F3:5-5.6 MACRO when my PZ-70 imploded at the Elemdorf AFB last year. That was the first trip out for that lens. It seemed like it was going to be a good one.

Belive it or not, the only lenses I have bought since then have been Takumar Universal mounts that fit on my Spotmatic and my Zenit B.

Here is the link to the Pentax site's info about the camera......

http://www.pentaxusa.com/news/news_display.cfm?pressid=152

Pentax had tried earlier to develop one using the chassis of their top of the line MZ-S camera but it never hit the marketplace.

The other thing I noted was that in the specs that the new camera uses for AA batteries. Not some funky camera specific one.

That is a plus, I'm a big fan of standard AA rechargeables. Cheaper and always available. They seem to last OK too if you get the high capacity NIMH ones. I just dropped the cash wad on a new Fuji, but if I hadn't this Pentax would have been a nice option too.
