A340 Flypast Video

Sat Mar 01, 2003 7:26 pm

Finally, after all these months I've finally gotten around to editing and posting my video clip of the Airbus A340-600 and the Rolls-Royce Spitfire PRXIX performing their special flypast for us RR folks in Derby & Hucknall.

Before you click the link you ought to know some facts:

The file is 7.96mb, runs for 1 minute 30 seconds and comes in a 192x144 window size. That said, I hope you enjoy it!

Cheers!

LOL! Big grin

I'm not sure if it comes across too well on the movie but on the day the Spitfire was by far the louder of the two aircraft!

Actually, what is wrong with the RR Spitfire? It sounds like a can of bolts being rattled! I keep wondering whether it's something to do with the fact that that they've had to shoe-horn a Shackleton's Griffon engine in there and it's missing the second row of propellors??  Wink/being sarcastic

Cheers

Cool video. It really shows the sheer size of the A346, especially because I have not yet seen it in person. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for your kind comments!

It is indeed an incredibly long aircraft and simply awe inspiring once you get up close to one!

I remember walking around the Tolouse final assembly building a couple of years ago, being left speechless at the sheer scale of these beasts... roll on the A380! Big grin A near religious experience for me!

Cheers,

Thanks Brett!

The whole event was rounded off nicely by having the aircraft land back at East Midlands Airport and us RR folks being bussed over to have a jolly good look around both the A340-600 and the RR Spitfire PRXIX.

Here are a couple of shots I managed to get accepted onto the database:

There's a whole ton of other photos from the event, but sadly they are not up to A.Net standards. Here are a couple of my favourites:

Hope you liked them!

Cheers!

He's right, the Spitfire IS noisier than the A340!

At first it looks like the warplane is towing the widebody. Big grin

Very cool video, thanks for the link.

It's my pleasure Thomas, glad you enjoyed it!

Sadly the camera work is a touch jerky.... inexperience... excitement of the moment... whatever, it could have been better! Big grin

Still it edited up nicely... if a bit small! Had to keep reminding myself that not everyone has broadband and 26Mb for a 1 minute 30 second video might not go down too well!
