well its just amazing that in this day and age, an airline is starting ops, not only with an L1011 but with such a classic airline's scheme. I'm floored. Now lets see how long it lasts...

hi there
well, not to disappoint anybody, but I took a pic of a Northeast L-1011 in Capetown 10 days ago. the plane was registered 3D-NEC and looked like an ex Tradewinds (ex N310SS cn 1096) example with very small stickers below the cheat line. was operating haj flights, I heard.

The aircraft pictured in the slide is ex-TWA, and was shot at Tucson. I have the exact same shot. It's been there at least a month, and AFAIK, it's still there...

Anyone who plans to visit can e-mail me for details on how to shoot it.

Hey Terry, Speaking of rare stuff sitting down in your neck of the woods, When is someone going to get out shoot those ProAir MD90's! How many years have they been sitting at Marana.

So far this is by far the best shot of seen of them........

Sam,
the frightening part of it is that it quite possibly could have reached higher than 50 bucks- that was just the cap he decided to put on it for buy now. But kodachrome is no good and old and most people dont use it anymore

Joe, I just noticed when I got back home: what the hell happened to that L1011?????? , Turned out it was already sold, too bad. Not that I would have paid 50 bucks though Smile

The problem with those ProAir MD90s is the way they are parked (as you can see in Sam's photo). I'll have to get my friend to fly me in there, then do a low fly-past and dip the wing. Even so - there's always the cruddy airplane window and the motion of the plane to deal with - it's not easy.

Also gotta get the Khalifa/Air Algerie B747-400 that's parked there ... in Sam's photo shoot, it wasn't painted yet...

Yes Terry, please have your freind fly you in there. What type of plane does he fly? If you can get in a high wing Cessna (150, 172, 182) it is easy to open the window in flight and shoot through the opening. You could probably recover the cost of the flight by selling the slides on that http://www.auctiontransportation.com. I know quite a few people that would pay for shots of those birds.

I can tell you that the Pro Air MD90 is parked tight and difficult to shoot, I am fortunate don't have an issue with the curvature of plastic glass because of the digital camera. When the plane is moving fast, the chance to get blurry shot is very high and you may need to do 10 times missed approach there.

Richard is right, i'd personally pay $20 for a perfect shot of it and if you get both, i'll pay 20 for each. Only Kodachrome though- anything else im not interested in  Big grin

I hear ya guys, believe me... I need better shots of them as well. My shots of those birds came when they all had their rudders off, and were not parked at the best angle. Now that they are out away from the flightline, chances are better for a decent shot. I gotta get there anyway before it heats up for the summer, and I'll see what I can do. My buddy flies C172s, and I'm familiar with shooting while in flight - but getting a crisp shot isn't easy. I usually shoot aerial photos for research purposes (like Sam's).
