1. I Am Ready To Upload! 2. South Africa Spotting

Fri Mar 07, 2003 6:52 pm

Hi all

I have 2 things here to say and plug  Smile

1.

Waiting eagerly my all 62 rolls of Fudgy slides and few Kodycrap to return, now I have sorted them all out, some went to collectors pocket already, some went magazine and trades and some better ones are ready to upload and going to my collection as always, as you have seen many of my D100 shots here now, but the following 50-100 uploads (depends on how many get rejected  Big grin is going to be quite boring but pretty, really pretty if you understand slides. More than just a side shoot most of the time, with many action shots too! I don't think I will get hits more than 200 per shot as proper slides shot didn't have the viewing power than those airport overview shots. I think in a way those are cheap hit, but we all do it from time to time  Smile But getting hits is really last thing on my mind, I care more about the beauty of my shots thats all!

I am uploading from Phuket, Bangkok, Beijing, Tokyo, Moses Lake, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Salt Lake City at this time, and plus more selection from Sydney, I didn't see quite many good shots from Sydney for a while, so I am going be the one to rise the bar! Have a few days out spotting since came back 10 days ago, managed well and enjoyed the great weather, and enjoyed tremendous with the friendship built all over years, tomorrow I will have a slide show run in my house with over 20 buddies coming over!  Smile

2. About South Africa

I am looking forward to a trip to Cape Town, South Africa and Johannesburg, in either March 17 or April 22.

Can anyone provide some detail about spotting location in CPT and JNB, the runway usage, prevailing winds, sun angles, I plan to hire rental car in both cities. I am seeking any one knows a morning spot in CPT, I heard from Propfreak that afternoon is quite awesome. Plan to get on board a SAA A340-600.

This afternoon, I am looking at pics from Cape Town, it is so pretty, especially the Table Mountain secnery!! So pretty that I got carried away again and trigger the desire to go ASAP! I have never been to Africa, I am little worried but I am going this time. Do I need to carry a weapon? (sounds funny I know)

Just so pretty and words cannot describe it!

My god...Sam, are you ever at home?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy But seriously - do you travel for business? If this is all on your own time and money, my envy for you will go through the roof! With a full time job, I'm lucky if I can even get out to my local airport a couple times a month...

Anyway, looking forward to the uploads!
My name is Scott, and I am addicted to writing trip reports.

To solve the mystery of my frequent travel:

Currently doing a master degree in Business Finance writing thesis stuff like that, with quite a bit time to juggle around and skip courses thanks to Internet. Most of the time I do is a short 1 week trip. I invested lots of money in US and Australian stock, money and currency market, which provided some very good return since 1999 to 2001 although loss a lot too this yr. due to the sluggish and impending war issue, also plus the sales of my slides and images license to airlines provided covered usually 30% to 1/2 of the trip cost. And thank heaven to FF scheme, that I normally choose to fly United and Star Alliance, as I get double mileage on United everytime I go.

I think I am addicted to travel, as it is a whole new experience to somewhere you never been to, seeing different people and different culture, feeling you either involve in or absolutly a stranger there. The refreshing feeling and get shot something nice and rare is the biggest rewards to me! I do fair a bit of sightseeing too when abroad.

But afterall, I am not a poor bloke, so I am just burning my money and throwing it away like crazy  Big grin

LOL!

Fair Play to you Sam! That's the sort of lifestyle I think I would really enjoy!

Judging by your current crop of images I'm really looking forward to the next lot!

All the best

I'm eagerly awaiting those shots Sam. There are very few people who can get an actionshot to look the way I like them, but you are one of them! Too bad you only shoot that green stuff Big grin

Just today I got back a few rolls with landingshots from AMS, sure feels great going trough all of them.

Dear Sam! First of all thanks for posting my pictures taken from a LH B.747 departing CPT to JNB and FRA. Most of the international departures out of CPT perform this sightseeing departure and if you are able to enjoy it, chose a seat on the right hand side, sit back, take your camera and relax, enjoy the breathtaking view of CPT and the Cape of Good Hope area. Regarding the spotting I'm not much help for you, I know in the afternooon you can take pictures from a vieving area in the terminal, but you have to shoot through glass. In the General aviation area you might be able to get limited ramp access if you state your wish politely, South African people are usually very nice! My only advice for you: Please do not do only spotting, enjoy CPT and the amazing surrounding area, go to Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope and the vinelands, enjoy some good food and the excellent South African wine. Big grin Back in 2000 I spent 14 days in South Africa and it was a vacation I won't forget, I'll be back one day. Can't wait to see your pictures from CPT, good luck! Have a great time Gerhard

Thanks Gerhard for the advice
and Royal for that shark pictures  Yeah sure

I found good links and got email from an South African person Mr Vivian Watts. provided some insight.

I am so impressed about Cape Town's secnery. That going on to the Table Mountain is a must for me!

If anyone else is interested , to see Cape Town and the cable car to Table Mountain, here is a very good site

http://www.tablemountain.net

Just so pretty and cool! I think it is quite like Rio de Janeiro in some aspect, but of course is not the same!
