Film Scanners

Sun Mar 09, 2003 2:32 pm

OK. So now I'm ready to purchase that all important film scanner. Of course I've read all the biased reviews everywhere. What's everybody using? My budget is around $1000....

With a thousand clams why not join the digital age if you havent already and get a Nikon 5700 or a Fuji S602.

Now that digital age thing.... If I didn't have a ton of old gear (Canon T90/lenses), that would definitely be the way to go! Gotta go with the neg scanner.

Nikon Coolscan IV or Minolta Scan Elite II are the ones to go for.

Overall quality of a good slide is still way ahead of anything a digicam can provide.
A small picture on a screen might not make a difference if you've got a decent scanner, but if you want to make large prints digicams are hopelessly inadequate.
A slide or negative contains several times the data the output from even the best digicam does, and you're not facing the planned obsolescence of your camera as the next version is released in 6 months...

Go and get the Nikon Coolscan 4. Probably the best scanner you can get for around $1000.

Because some people have big slide archives and some people still shoot slide (and like it over digital).  Insane

Get the Nikon. Great features (especially ICE - the dust elimination algorithm), and great colors and definition (4000 dpi)
