New Canon Cameras (DSLR)

Wed Mar 12, 2003 7:14 am

I was in Ritz Camera the other day all about to order my 10D when the salesman said that Canon would also be coming out with the D40 and D80 in April. Can anyone confirm this or shall I just buy my 10D?

Thanks for the help

Supposedly they were supposed to come out with a cheaper 4mp DSLR....maybe that's it...?

Justin,

I do remember topics in the forum about the D40 and D80, but when they came out with the 10D I figured that the D40 and D80 were just rumors and were never going to happen.

Look at it like this, if you hold off buying a DSLR until a day when you're "sure" there won't be a new, bigger, better, faster model just around the corner, you'll never buy one!

Go for it!  Big thumbs up

There is nothing definite AFAIK about this, but various sources point to a DSLR based on the EOS 3 using an 8mp sensor to be priced between the 10D and 1Ds. A second camera, with a plastic body and 4mp sensor is also expected, priced significantly below the 10D.

One thing is pretty certain - they won't be called the D40 and D80 ... Canon is bringing DSLR nomenclature inline with other cameras, so names like the EOS 3D and 100D are more likely. The earliest I've heard for a launch of these cameras up till now is September.

Cheers,
