What Was Your 1st Accepted Photo In Db?

Sat Mar 29, 2003 2:58 am

Hello everyone,

I'm just interessted in your first shots that were accepted by airliners.net. Maybe you can also show up on of your recent uploads. So we/I can see the improvements.

Here is my first shot and one of my actual uploads:

The left pic is my first one and was shot with Canon EOS 300, Tamron 75-300mm lens and Fuji Reala 100 print film. The right one is shot with Canon EOS D60, so any improvement for me?  Wink/being sarcastic

I'm really looking forward your first shots.

Greetings

Hay Tobi,

Here's my contribution. It's actually not really representative, because I'm simply uploading my old stuff. There's only three months in between these uploadings.

However....I was pretty surprised ( with all the comments on this forum regarding the difficulties for acception ) that the early shots were uploaded so damn easely; you can see clearly the dirtspots and hairs on them...but I learned pretty fast to work with photoshop  Big grin

On major remark is that it seems much harder for me to upload very recent work, taken with a Minolta and Kodak Ectrachrome; for some reason most of the scans really suck...I think it has something to do with the type of film, because my older slides are far better in result; both quality and scanning.

Of course, when it was uploaded, it was under my name, considering back then I was 38  Big grin. Later I changed it (although my dad did not want recognition, I wanted to do it after I 'came out', so to speak, to make it right) to his name..

Taken with a 200ASA APS film, hence the grain. By the way, what would it be rejected for nowadays?

My experience in this hobby is coming up to my 1yr mark. I started the hobby with a Fuji2800z digital camera, and now, I use the Canon D30. The short time has not bothered me. Though ALL my photos are at the same airport, I have tried to be different.

The left photo is my first photo uploaded. I can rember the day I took it. It was a bank holiday and it was really dull weather. I climbed my way up a muddy hill, took the photo, and then got asked to move by airport security.

The right photo is my latest photo uploaded. No problems to contend with, other then a fence. I have never used steps for any of my photos. This will seem surprising to some of the EMA regulars.

Well here are my first and most recent, although the most recent is actually an older file photo that I only recently uploaded. However there will never be any more Bombardier photos posted as along with 4,000 other employees at the deHavilland plant in Toronto, I have been permanently laid-off. The dream job of all time..... gone forever. S**t Happens.  Crying  Sad

My first two pictures, both uploaded at the same time - these were my first uploads ever, both accepted first time of trying. Both are now over half the database ago - whilst they're not current quality, I'd like to believe they were OK for the time. I also like to believe I can do better now!

Well, I selected similar motives, to be easier to compare. This is the first one, shot about one year ago with old Praktica BC1(!) on Superia100 or 200, as most of my photos till the end of 2002,

These photos were taken in August 1971 at JFK using Nikon FTN's with fixed focal length lenses, no autofocus, no auto-exposure, just you and the camera.

One my most recent, the 909th acceptance, almost 32 years after the first pictures were taken. Completely different world now in more ways than one. Digital cameras, quality zoom lenes, autofocus, auto-exposure and a host of other aids. BUT the best thing about today is the relative ease we can share our work with others and communicate with those who share the same or similar interests as we do. You couldn't do that back in 1971.

I'm sitting here today with 989 acceptances and my attentions have turned to that 1,000th upload. I'm racking my brain trying to think of something really special, but it's difficult with conditions the way they are today. Hopefully I'll come up with something that you the A.net community will enjoy and that I will be proud of.

I had tried about half an year to get some photos accepted, but I didn't cause my Canon made photos so grainy. Finally I succeed with my friend's f707. Now I'm a happy owner of 707 myself.  Smile

I hope my skills have improved. Big grin

Here's my first, taken when the sum came out for about two seconds - taken on an EOS-100

...well, I join this thread too, but for me it's more of a scanning technique improvement than a true photographic improvement, of the simple reason that I've been an Aviation photog for so many years now.

In fact, my first upload is nearly 2 years younger than my most recent one...

...I'm not sure if it's really fair to compare those either, 'cause I've made many, many reuploads of my earlier attempts...  Big grin
