Jaggies When Re-Sizing

Mon Apr 21, 2003 5:18 am

I'm plagued by a problem: Often when I re-size an image down to, say, 1024 pixels, the smaller image has loads of jaggies. This is before I've done any sharpening.
Could this be because of a poor original digital image or because of poor re-sizing capability of the editing program, in my case PSP?

Sorry for being a bit vague but I hope someone can help me.
Thanks,
Jon.

Are you making sure that the height-width ratio is staying the same? That could do it..and distort the picture some too...could you upload a sample?

Select Bi-Cubic resampling (if possible) which is the correct method in PS7

Yes, I'm maintaining the aspect ratio.

Give me a few minutes and I'll prepare a "before & after" shot and upload it here.

Wietse: You've done it; that's the answer!! Thank you very much indeed.

As an aside, the options for re-sizing are: Pixel Resize, Smart Resize, Bicubic, Bilinear and Weighted Average.
Have you got any idea what that means??? I'm clueless  Smile

no problem  Smile

Its the way your PC calculates the pixel differences and relative changes. All very complicated  Smile Bicubic is the most complex, it takes most things into account creating a good resized image.
