Help! Being Tempted Into Digital..........

Fri Apr 25, 2003 8:12 am

I would appreciate some advice from anyone who has/uses a olympus C-720UZ

The dilema..
currently using Canon EOS1000FN(US-Rebel) c/w 28-300mm sigma lens which is fine and have been happy with. Needed new pc ,wife wanted digital point 'n' shoot so got kodac easyshare dx4430 3.2m 38-114mm zoom with pc package.
Rushed out to do the field test, downloaded pics to pc and was bowled over with the results. Took a trip to local Jessops and special offer(£299) is olympus C720UZ 40-320mm(only X8 zoom and not the usual X10-exclusive to Jessops) rated 3.34m pixals. Now do I:

1. trade in SLR for C720UZ?
2. wait and save my pennys for something better?

£299 seems a good price to pay
3m pixals seems good enough quality
40-320mm zoom is better reach than my sigma(never used below 50mm anyway)
has anyone got any pictures on A.net with a C720UZ?

would really appreciate any help as I think the offer on the C720UZ is to clear end of line and I don't won't to miss the boat................

many thanks in advance BHXviscount

I have a C-730UZ and I have shots accepted here with it. I still shoot prints with my faithful Nikon F-65 which I will never give up.

My suggestion is keep the SLR and wait to get a D30, D60, or 10D down the road a bit.

I agree with Geese...Hang on to your SLR and play with the digital. If you find you really enjoy it take the jump into a DSLR. (10D since you already have Canon lenses...) In the meantime enjoy.  Smile

As Dan says £2,000 is way off. With the introduction of the 10D the D60 has been discontinued and although I wouldnt never buy from EBay you can get a D60 2nd hand from Park Cameras for £899 ( http://www.parkcameras.com )

Go for a digital SLR over every other form of digital, you wont regret it

If the D60s are down to 900 pounds I wonder how low the D30s are going?

Now if only Nikon released something new, then I can pick up a nice cheap D100.

Basically I have the same problem. I have now a compact camera (pentax espio 200) I like quite a bit. Only drawback is that the zoom ain't great. It has a build-in zoom of 48-200mm. As you will understand the 200mm zoom ain't the best there is. Often rather blurry and dark, as you would expect from a compact.

Anyway, I found someone who is offering a Canon D2000 for a fair price. I have looked on a.net to see if there are any pictures made with this camera. Needless to say I can not find them. Does anyone know if this camera is any good?

I know I will never be able to afford a D30 or a D60.

Thanks in advance!
