Honolulu has four runways––08R/26L (Reef Runway), 08L/26R, 04R/22L, 04L/22R.
When photographing 08R departures/26L departures and arrivals before 9-11 with winter light, you could hike out to the other side of the runway. The light would be behind you for the whole day.
When photographing 08R departures after 9-11 with winter light, tough! (Especially afternoon/evening light––unless for evening light, you want a nice sunset shot.) I would not hike out to the other side of the runway due to tightened security. You would have to wait till summer comes for the sun to be behind you once again! (Right now, the sun is slowly moving north . . . still waiting!)

Not many photos during winter!
When photographing 08R departures during the summer, the light is behind you and the results of your photos improve. On the other side of 08R, the light is facing you.
Some more images yet to come!
For 04R, 04L, morning sunlight will shine on the starboard side of the aircraft and evening sunlight will shine on the portside of the aircraft throughout the year. (22L, 22R is opposite.)
