Is that C-130 pic (herc1.jpg) real?!?!?

Good Lord, if I was standing there, I would have been huddled underneath the truck in the fetal position!  Wow!

I have some 'serious' doubts about the reality of that Iberia landing.. If that truck would have been a hundred meters back it would be a crash/collision.

some people on this forum who have been there to confirm?

The IB pic was discussed intensively when it was added. The photographer and some people familiar with that spot participated. And of course it´s real.

Mika, when I asked that sometime, the answers were mostly "with a powerful telephoto lens".

Great pictures, all. But ever since I saw that United DC-10 flying underneath the Golden Gate Bridge--and ever since I learned to use Adobe Photoshop--I always take 'awesome' pictures with a grain of salt. Perspective, too, plays a role in make something seem more than it really is. Of this group, the picture that DID make me go 'Wow!' was the Ethiopian (?) 707 with gear up, barely three feet above the runway...and with a crowd of people standing around watching!

I'd say that last pic particularly looks faked - There's no heat trails coming off the engine....

Jhooper,

Thanks for that memory...I can still see those old CV880's taking off out of MIA, looking like they had a fireman on board stoking the coal! Ahhh, the glory days of aviation when all of these planes belched black smoke and tons of half-burnt kerosene. Get's my blood pumping just thinking of that smell!  Smile

During the Arab-Israeli war in 1967 IAF Mirages and F4 Phantoms flew supersonically at under 100 ft AGL  Wow! They claim all the glass windows in the vicinity shattered. That's what you call low flying- over Mach 1 at 50ft, can you imagine the sound of that.

For the record, that Eurowings A319 was NOT taken with a telephoto lens. The perspective would have been very different with one. It must be taken with a wide angle lens and the camera must've been very close to the rotation point.

Remote triggering is the point here I think..

Regarding the accusations that some of the pictures are fake, let me tell you this....
I have a friend in the military who served as a Mirage 5 mecanic for 15 years. The lowest pass he ever saw during a squadron exchange was a Buccaneer at around 3 feet, not over the runway....there you can go lower  Wink/being sarcastic

During the unfortunately 'good old days' pilots regularly made all kinds of weird bets: the homebase of the Mirage 5 was Bierset, with a runway that was slightly up in the middle. One of the guys made once a pass this low that he hit the tarmac with his two outboard tanks ( and luckely recovered )....passes of three feet were absolutely no exception!

So I would say that the Jaguar and Hercules photo are very real.  Wow!

That picture is a from a TV show, but apparently it was a recreation of a realworld event.
The aircraft had a landing gear failure and someone at the airport decided to try and yank out the wheel while the aircraft was overflying the runway.
They succeeded too, on the second pass I believe.
The people involved got a decoration (though the FAA tried to pull their licenses I believe for irresponsible actions).
I wish I were flying

This was a usual height for F-104's passing over or near the crowd of spotters at the Spotters Days at Volkel (EHVK) in the Eighties, but sometimes they did even get lower! Quite exiting that was for us spotters! And it provided us with unique photo possibilities too!

(With thanks to Harry's Starfighter site for the picture.)

No doubt, the most exciting fly past I experienced was in the delivery flight of the first Air Europa 737-800 with the new corporate image (the image pasted by PW100).

Somebody at Air Europa advised us of the arrival and the Captain intention to do the flypast, so we were waiting for the flight direct from Boeing field.

So, right on time, we heard Air Europa 001 calling Palma Approach and, after the first contact, they asked to do two low passes over the Globalia facilities at Lluchmajor (about 8 km from the airport) and two more over 24R.

After the Globalia overflight, the conversation between the ATC (A woman, that morning) and AEA001 was (I'm translating from Spanish, except the self explaining last sentence):

ATC:Air Europa 001, so you are going to make two low passes over 24R?
AEA001: Afirm
ATC: And could you tell me at which height will you perform them?
AEA001: Bajo, señorita, MUY bajo!  Smokin cool

What happened next, apart from what is seen in the photo, was an spectacular climb over 06L threshold. I should have video taped one of the two passes, as they were incredibly similar in its execution

I'll never forget that morning!

Two more:

The Air Europa 767 wasn't too low but they waved with the wings all along the runway.

Sadly, it seems that the fly past tradition on delivery flights for brand new aircraft at PMI is begining to be lost.

The right wingtip was 4-5 feet over the ground and he kept it going like that for half of the runway !!!

My dad has a story that when he was in the RAF there were on excersise and some jet fighters ( around mid 50's) thought it would be fun to buzz the tents and one of them took out the clothes line that went between the two tents. He estimates the height at about 5 feet. Needless to say every one hit the deck.

Now that I have seen the fakes made with photoshop (who could forget the one of AA 767 supposed to be taken from the World trade tower) some of these examples are clearly fakes, but I agree that they are all great pictures.

Thank you all for the nice comments! It's great fun to search the database for these foto's.
Since it's a very rainy day again here in the Netherlands, I found some time to do some more searching. Hope you appreciate them.

And again, . . . . the Dutch F27 demo team is the winner of today's low flying competition. Can't go much lower than that!
Just enlarge the last photo to get the altitude [ort rather, lack of altitude!] really appreciated.

Thanks to all the photographers who contribute to this site!
