New Feature

Sat May 31, 2003 9:52 am

The Construction Number Field and the Code Field have now become active. Values listed in those fields are now visible, and you can click on a cn or a code to see more photos for them. However, at the moment you can only click on those cns and codes that have been listed in the new fields. The ones listed previously in the Remarks Field will of course not come up. An effort will be done to transfer cns and codes from the Remarks Field to the new fields, but that is a delicate process and will cost a lot of time.

As an experiment to see how it works, try registration VH-CUK: you will see that the cn of three of the four photos can be clicked upon because they are listed in the new cn field, but the fourth one is still listed in the Remarks Field and can thus not be clicked upon. The ones in the Cn Field are lightly highlighted.

As I have commitments for the next two-and-a-half weeks not much will be done at it until then.

Please read the Help items for the new fields when uploading, as I noted already that some photographers start to list military serials=registrations in the Code Field instead of in the appropriate Registration Field! I thought it was clearly explained in the Help item.

Have fun!

Nice job. since I have tons of free time I will go thru all my photos and along with the census try and add the numbers.

I noticed that this c/n field is not yet on the Correction/Update page, can you add it there? Other than that there is no way to input these #s to pics already uploaded.

I agree with Bruce, if the new cn and code fields are added to the correction page I will be more than happy to go through my own photos and add the data that I have  Smile
Btw, is there any plans on also making the cn clickable when the photos are opened in larger versions, right now they don't show up, at least not for me...

Once again you have improved the flow of the database. You seem to have a knack (ability) for doing this. Thanks Mr. Vercruijsse - you have made a more "user friendly" place.

Now, if you will - upload some of those Canada pictures - if you can find the time - we would love to view them !!

Bruce and JoakimE:
Thanks for noting the anomalies, they have been forwarded to Johan (I am illiterate in programming Embarrassment ).

A warning: Andrew, our Corrections Editor has a large mountain of corrections waiting, so don't expect immediate changes. Although additional correction editors have volunteered, they first will have to be selected, and then they will have to study how to work safely in the live database. With such a large database and an ever growing number of people working on it, working standards become very important in order not to make a mess of it, or to prevent that one editor changes things that had been added by another!

Thanks for the compliments. I have indeed not uploaded any photos lately due to the "work" load. But I have just uploaded a mixed bag a couple of days ago which are waiting to be screened. The work backlog will grow as a consequence, but so be it!

Nice work!

A couple of notes:

1) need to add cn to 'keywords' search on homepage

2) It would be neat if you could make the cn search smart enough to return hits even when the person includes the cn/ln. For example, some people have put '12345' for Beoing aircraft (without the ln). Others may have '13245/678' (cn/ln). If I click on '12345' in either case I should get back both '12345' and '12345/678'.

Thank you!
