Have I Missed My Chance? (Concorde Contrail Pic)

Tue Jun 03, 2003 8:28 am

Hey guys,

Quite often I am directly below the flightpath of Concorde as it heads off to New York. On a sunny day if you are lucky you can see it as it speeds over head, the shape clearly visible and the sound so raw, even at that altitude..

My dad saw it yesterday in the clear skies, and we saw it again today, its one of those events where everybody leaves the house and walks into the street to see, it was so clear, you could see the blue and red on the tail it was that clear.. quite incredible.

I kicked myself for not having a camera handy, unfortunetely rain is on its way so it was a clear day with some scattered cloud. It was so quick it was gone before I would have had a chance to get my camera...

I'm starting to think this was maybe my last chance to get a picture of Concorde, I used to see it quite regularly over the skies of my school, but I haven't seen it much since the past week..

The weather forecast looks good, does anyone know if Concorde follows any specific flightpath and if there is anyway to find out?

Cheers

Dan

Dan,

Concorde follows set Supersonic tracks over the Bristol Channel, unlike regular Transatlantics who follow the North Atlantic Track structure which is jetstream dependant.

Concorde has a specific Supersonic entry lane to allow accelleration to Supersonic cruise to begin as early as possible, so you should keep seeing it all Summer.

Regards

Ah thats great to know Garry, thank you!

Oh and by the way, I see you are auctioning your D30 on ebay? I am really interested (if I can twist my dads arm into coughing up the money straight away) and could you please send me an email because I have no way of contacting you! The only reason why i'm interested is because its a great price and I know that it will be in great condition and you'll have taken good care of it, and that you are a 'reputable seller' so to speak!

Cheers

Dan

Sorry Dan but it made my day  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

To be honest I was not 100% sure it was Concorde until I got home and had a look on the PC.

Since uploading the picture I realize I got my directions all wrong and it was in fact routing from New York to Paris and the aircraft was F-BVFA (have sent the info and correction in)

Has any one got an idea at what sort of height this would have been while crossing Jersey I would have thought it would be on its way down by then?

To have taken this just a couple of days prior to the ending of the AF service I admit I count myself very lucky indeed to have captured her.

All the best

Derek

I've been trying to photograph her every day for the last 2 months now, without success  Big grin,

One photo I did get, she lost her contrail while I was on the can and got her going into the sun about 15 miles past me  Big grin

Its just a shame, Derek, that your photo is going to get lost under the billions of other photos added over the past 24 hours Big grin

Derek,if you unblock me from MSN,I could send you some very relevant stuff  Smile (Goss is no longer da boss.)
Are you sure that it wasn't heading Westerly as it could have been the weekly charter flight which goes round the Channel and Bay area which would make more sense. What time did you take the shot?
Cheers,Alex
