Color Casts Rejection Help

Thu Jun 05, 2003 4:47 pm

Just had a rejection this morning for Color casts (first time I have had this sort of rejection) I am not complaining as it was a high sun/ early afternoon shot but was wondering what the experts would do in say photoshop to improve this sort of picture.

Should be salvagable with careful use of curves - I've had a go with the rejected file, but you will get better results from the original. I'm using Corel Photopaint in these examples - but same should look the same in PS

1 - There is a predominant blue cast - get rid of this by reducing the intensity of the blue channel using the curves tool - note the shadow area is more agressively reduced than the highlights.

2 - Now the picture is overall a bit dark, so switching to all channels (RGB) I've boosted the levels a bit (possibly too much  Smile ), again emphasising the shadow area

3 - I think there is a touch of magenta cast as well - you could fix this by a little boost to the green channel.

Of course, the examples don't look too good (cause they're crap screen shots and I'm working from a .jpg), but I think you get the idea.

Cheers,

Colin

Colin,

Many thanks I will have a play around with the settings you discribe.

Perhaps with all your spare time now you should do a editing site?
Or should I just send all my pictures to you for editing from now on ?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

As ever many thanks

Derek

Funnily enough, it was something I was thinking about, but then there are already so many books and websites which cover this. But perhaps a few pages focussed on preparing images for A.net and addressing commonly seen problems would be helpful.

Cheers,

Colin

Colin

If you have the time, I am pretty sure Johan could incorporate anything you may produce into the FAQ page or similar.

Cheers

The second one looks good enough to me, Brum, good shot! I guess the haziness of the day played havok with the metering settings on the camera :/

Yes Dan it was a very hazy hot and sticky day in Amsterdam on Tuesday which is not ideal conditions for tacking pictures but needs must  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

BTW I should have been going to Paris but the French ATC strike put paid to that idea so I ended up paying Amsterdam a visit for the day.

I am sure I will get some cleaner air next week in Shannon (I hope)
