Concorde Take-off And Landing At LHR

Thu Jun 26, 2003 3:51 am

Hello everyone!

On thursday july 3rd, I'm going to Heathrow for a day with another aviationfreak.

Main goal; to see the concorde take-off and landing!  Wow!

We'll be arriving at LHR around 9.00 local.

So any of you British Anetters, do you know where the best spots are to catch the mighty machine??  Love
Is it easy just to walk around the airfield, or has times changed?? It's been a while since I've been there....

Eric

Lands at about 17.30

Takes off 19.00 or so

If the landings are from the west, it will land and take off from 09l usually doing a turn onto 220 then to 270 at 4500-6000 ft
If landing from east it will take off from 27r i understand that it also lands on 27r, but recently there have been reports on here that it lands on 27l

Taking all that into consideration

for 09l landing the field on the northbound road A3044 just south of the approach lights is ok

for 09l take off the roundabout just north of the BA base on the perimeter road

27l landing field at end of Myrtle Ave

27r take off either the BA base (to see the afterburners) or the field on to A3044 for some good noise!!

Any other suggestions from the regulars?

Silverfox - Your information is A1.

Concorde is now landing in the same runway configuration as the other aircraft.

A3044 is also known as Stanwell Moor Road and is on the route of bus H30 although that may not be any use, the 27R spot is on the perimeter road east and is reachable by bus from the centre of the airport and Hatton Cross.

Concorde should be landing on 27L and taking off from 27R if westerly winds prevail next week.

Matt,
Any idea when it stopped using 09R for take offs?

I don't know, but it was at least a year ago.

Very interesting topic, as I'm going to visit LHR myself within two weeks (July 12 - 13), before moving on to MAN/EDI etc etc...

Anyway, does anybody know how long this resurfacing work is going to take? I just want to be well-prepared for the Concorde, instead of seeing it coming in/taking off on the wrong runway...

Ivan,

The resurfacing has already taken place but it has left some "bumps" on the western end of the southern runway. Thats why Concorde is not able to use the southern runway for departures and is only able to land on the southern runway when there on westerlies (27L).

Northern runway is used as normal.

Thanx a lot everybody!

I would be cheering by now, if it wasn't that my coach is leaving LHR around 18h.  Sad

I guess I'll return for a couple of days around october 24th  Wink/being sarcastic

You might want to try a few weeks earlier than that, if it is overcast then it could be almost dark by the time Concorde comes home for the last time.

I i recall correctly, i think someone in BA siad that the last flight would depart JFK at 07.00 therefore getting in about 16.00.si it should still be light
Still ok for us video boys, but you woosies that moan when the sun goes behind a cloud!!!!. Just like the steam train boys as well ( tongue very firmly in cheek)

I think it'll be a case of getting to Myrtle Ave at the crack of dawn to bag a good spot that day!
