How Do You Guys Get Good Photos These Days?

Sun Jul 13, 2003 3:44 am

Now that spotters are usually run off (or even detained/arrested) in the U.S. for spotting these days, how do you guys still manage to get such good pics in the database. It's been awhile since I've been able to add a good photo to the database, because I can't seem to linger in good spotting areas for any length of time.

I got to airports where I know people there that will take me out or let me out. Also I am badged at LGB so I can drive around the field and take nice 50mm shots.

Simple! Get bigger glass, or better: Move over to AMS!

This pic was taken from public road at AMS!! No passes require. No cops looking at you like you're a potential security threat. Nobody asking for your ID, let alone taking you away in government vehicles.
Just lot's of people enjoying a nice day and admiring planes from all over the world! What a great country I live in [spotters wise that is...]. I just hope we can keep it like that.

Yes it's a shameless plug, but it's my first photo on A.net [my only one to date] and I'm damn proud of being part of this community and let you all enjoy the results of our spotting opportunities we have here!

Kind Regards,

We aren't run off by airport personell, we might be asked what we are doing and left alone, but nobody really kicks us out...

I second that, consider yourself fortunate. My father was taken in to custody in March. We just went back (and got kicked out) again anyway.

Maybe I should move to Europe and avoid the hassle?

I think Big Foot is blurry... It's not the photographers fault. There's a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside.

I personally haven't had the chance to do a lot of spotting, ever I guess. But have heard a lot of people who have tried, and not succedded. It really upsets me that I can be arrested for taking a picture of what, in essence, is a hunk of metal. Granted what happened on September 11th was bad, but I don't think it's worth restricting people from doing something they love, or in most cases do for a living, fly, and enjoy doing it. But the people who write the laws and inforce them probably don't see what's so cool about 750,000 pounds of basically metal and people flying through the air at speeds upwards of 500MPH and an altitude of 40,000 feet, when they themselves can jump about 1 foot off the ground and come right down.

That may be a little off topic (or a lot), but hey.
