Frontier's A318 Starts Service Tomorrow (July 20)

Sun Jul 20, 2003 2:35 am

It's first day routing will be SEA-DEN-MCI-DEN-LAS-DEN. Starting on the second day, it will be DEN-SEA-DEN-MCI-DEN-LAS-DEN.

Here's the schedule:
DEN-SEA 6:50a 8:30a (Except July 20)
SEA-DEN 9:05a 12:40p
DEN-MCI 1:20p 3:55p
MCI-DEN 4:30p 5:10p
DEN-LAS 5:55p 6:45p
LAS-DEN 7:25p 10:10p

I don't know when LAX is going to be added. It's on the A318 schedule, but I don't see any flights running this weekend. Maybe after Frontier gets it's second A318.

The weather for Denver isn't looking good for Sunday.  Sad

Are they getting the PTV's installed on them too?? I was hoping to catch it here at MCO while they were getting installed.

Clickhappy,

The DEN-SEA above is flight 838 which according to their schedules doesn't operate Saturdays and Sundays. The SEA-DEN flight is flight number 825 which doesn't operate on Saturdays. So how does the plane get to Seattle for a sunday morning departure to Denver? I don't know. I've been watching the flight trackers all day and haven't seen it go to Seattle to overnight for the flight tomorrow. Maybe it's already there. I dunno...

Anders,

Don't worry, it's not that we love European planes, it's just that we're happy for a new type for F9  Laugh out loud

Well Everyone..........

I was down at SEA this morning and the 318 was a now show, All I saw was the 737 with the two Polar Bears on the tail departing at about 0925. I waited around until 1000 and nothing but I did get a shot of a NWA 330 departing so the day wasnt all wasted......

Frontier A318 Update

Mon Jul 21, 2003 4:49 am

As Randall stated it was a no show! I called after I got off work today to SOC and Dispatch at Frontier. Frontier pre-loaded the A318 into its schedule system early for booking purposes only. The aircraft is officially delivered on June 23 from PHX-DEN in the afternoon.

So for the SEA guys, its not coming. Frontier until weds will have other aircraft fly the routes that it is scheduled to be on until the aircraft is going to be delivered. I was told that once the airplane is in place in PHX, that it will undergo proving flights, non-pax with the FAA Check Airmen. Then will be fully operational for Weds. I was also told the schedule from PHX on Weds does not reflect a A318, and it will take over a 733 on one of the flights that day.

Also for future reference, Frontier will never have an aircraft delivered through any other cities except MCO and PHX, as thats what dispatch told me.

So "Griswald" the bear will have to wait a few more days.

Royal, remember. The aircraft was delivered to the company in Hamburg, then flew test flights for a good few weeks after delivery. Then was flown to the Paris Air Show for a week.

Aircraft was then prepared for the trip to the USA, now somewhere in between Hamburg and Phoenix or is Already there. Now they must do proving flights for the Faa Check Airmen. So Technically it has been delivered, just not for pax service yet. Remember this is the first aircraft of the A318 series being delivered to an airline. Major prep work is involved. More than you think!

Weds night I am going over to the Frontier hangar to see my friend who works there and spend some time seeing the aircraft and getting some pics as It will overnight in Denver.

*sigh*

I'm so pissed. Well, the weather was bad so at least I didn't miss much. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it out to DIA again until Aug 2nd at the earliest.

Good thing I didn't buy a ticket either for today. Would have been really screwed then.

Good luck guys!

Here in PHX - I can confirm everything that Aaron has already stated. It's gotta do a few test flights here before entering service.

802 should be a week later.

July 22nd seems like a good day to deliver airliners for Airbus....last year i remember it was the Airbus A340-600 that went to Virgin at the Farnborough airshow...now the Frontier A318...both firsts for the industry...
a good day since it is my birthday and all... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

i am tracking FFT801 right now from BGR to PHX and it just passed over adirondack regional (SLK) in new york...i'll make a screen shot and post it here momentarily..

Yes to the PTV's, but not until September on the first one, N801FR.

Apparently, they want to get the plane in service as soon as possible and put the PTV's in when they have more A318s in the fleet.

Lighting sucked today. It was hot and hazier than any other day for the past two weeks. I went out with Vafi88 nonetheless. It was a bad day to shoot.

Delta MD-90 old colors - missed

UPS DC-8 new colors - unable to get to it. Shooting from far would result in poles and haze. Not a.net type of material. The bird looked great though

USAF C-130 - turned out horrible due to light

Frontier A-318 - missed it while driving to Runway 16L, since they switched right around the time when it was supposed to come in.

CO 753 - wrong runway

AA 763 - wrong runway

Skywest jubilee logojet - wrong runway

AA 763 later took off, but I am not sure if I can salvage the photo. Lighting was horrible.

So that was the recap of the day. Security was friendly, as always.

Alex, Aaron, Mark, Tim (wait, he works for Frontier)
The Frontier 318 won't be here until the 27th. Probably the first flight from Phoenix that day. I have a little insider info on that date.

Most likely will be out to catch the "Grizz"

Nuts, I'm out of town from July 27th until August 2nd. Then I turn around and head back out on the road August 4th until the 9th. Looks like it will be a while before I have a chance to see it. I'll have my new lens by then though...  Smile

Thanks for the info Jeff!

Jeff,

Nobody called from Firstwatch, and it seems like they're a bunch of morons out there anyway. I submitted my resume twice and filled out my application. Nobody responds and nobody returned my phone calls. I applied at Signature Flight Support last week, I hope that falls through. Otherwise, I am enjoying my life at the moment, I've been able to spend time doing more enjoyable activities rather than work. And I do not miss my old job at all. Those thick assholes can all burn in hell for all I know.

Hope to see you out there at some point.
