Uh-oh. D30 - "Error 80"

Fri Aug 01, 2003 4:24 am

I have a feeling that this is bad  Sad

Was using the D30 around the house with my 28-105 which is brand new, taking pictures of the cats. Everything was normal until i started to use the flash, clicked the button, the flash popped up and then i took he picture. Did this twice or thrice.

Now i have a blinking "Error 80" message on the LCD of the D30. Could anyone shed some light to what its implying? I have a sneaky feeling its not good, and if it isnt then bang goes Saturday at Heathrow, which i was REALLY looking forward to  Sad

TIA

This error occurs in the following conditions.

1) When the EOS D30's self-check system detects that the shutter has not been fully charged (ready to shoot).

2) When the EOS D30's self-check system detects that the shutter operation sequence has not been completed correctly.

3) When the built-in flash cannot be recharged after the E-TTL preflash but before the main exposure. Try clearing the error by turning the main power switch OFF and then back ON. If this does not solve the problem, have the EOS D30 examined by a qualified service technician.

What is the solution to numbers 1 and 2?

Maybe i should take it to the camera shop. Boy they'll be getting bored of me now!

Henry, if push comes to shove, as a last resort switch the camera off, take out the main battery AND the smaller battery in the bottom of the camera, and leave them out for a while. Then install them both again. This will mean you'll have to reset all your custom settings and preferences (because the small battery preserves all your settings), but its the only way you can do a total reset of the camera. If that doesn't solve the problem, then sadly you're going to have to be talking to Canon.

Thanks Andy, I think i'll take it to the camera shop before resorting to that.

Henry: Glad your new camera is working and you had blue skies on Sat at LHR.

Sat was a great day (B-HOX, A4O-KF, 2 Saudi TriStars, RJ A320, A6-YAS to name but a few) Wednesday was good too with the IB A340-600.

So there will be hoards of LHR photo's appearing now from:
B.P.
S.D.
H.L.
and myself.

Nice place to spend summer holidays, especially in this weather (might touch 100°F midweek)

Back to 09 runways now.

Anyone get the JAL B777 Fri/Sun? it was in the new colours.

Rgds,

Jonathan

I was based in 'Esher Cresent' had the Silver Focus parked up there and moved around a bit, walked down for a head on Varig etc.

I was testing out my (new to me!) lens

I have some in the queue soon to be added, or rejected of course  Smile

Where you the one with short hair + blue shirt, if it was you or not, he had a D30 + 75-300USM lens

I had the error 81 JUST after I bought a used camera off ebay. It had to do with the shutter (which ended up being replaced). Might be a good thing to have Canon look at it and maybe get it cleaned too.

I managed to avoid Henry's lens by the look of those photos by being a lazy photographer and sitting in the car between arrivals listening to the radio  Smile

Henry did not escape my lens though and I have him on candid camera.

As for parking illegally, if you dont look at any no parking sign's then how can you take any notice of them  Smile

A few LHR pics to come...if they are accepted course  Smile
