67 & 77mm Filter Recommendations?

Tue Aug 05, 2003 7:52 pm

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good skylight or haze filter in 67 and 77mm sizes and their likely costs please? I'm in the process of finally dropping my print shooting Minolta gear and moving to digital, and will need a filter in each of these sizes for the new lenses. I guess I should add that I'd be buying in the UK....

Thanks for all your help  Smile

Paul

OK, so filters aren't the most interesting subject matter, but maybe I can refine my post to attract at least a few replies  Smile

I'm looking at Hoya and B+W Skylight and UV filters mainly for lens protection but cannot decide which ones to go for. Also, I notice there is Skylight 1A and 1B, and then just skylight....what are the differences? I assume having multicoating is good?

Is a skylight filter more appropriate than a UV for long focal lengths or vice versa?

Hope that's not too many questions  Smile

Thanks, Paul

B+W MRC line is all I still use. Anything else pales in comparison (except Nikon which costs more).

Most filters sold as simply "Skylight" are 1A. 1B is stronger, 1C is stronger still.
I use 1B which also has a slight warming effect I find pleasing.

UV is useless. It's just windowpane that's been ground and polished better.

OK thanks Jeroen. I guess I'm looking for some 'windowpane' to protect the lens as much as anything....anyway I'll see what I can find  Smile
