3MP Enough?

Tue Aug 19, 2003 12:45 pm

Hello all,
I am considering buying a digital camera to use for both general and aviation photography. My budget is tight, though, and if at all possible, I don't want to spend more than $200 USD or so. I have seen some relatively good 3MP cameras on different websites and was wondering if these would be acceptable in terms of quality or if I am crazy and should never consider a 3MP camera for aviation photography. I don't necessarily need to upload all my shots to Airliners.net, but would a 3MP photo, shot and edited correctly, have a good chance of being accepted? Or is this whole idea a waste of time? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd say so, it'd be a great camera! I use a 2MP and I have a handful of shots on here!

Continental,
Thanks a lot for your help. Now, does anyone know of a good-quality 3MP camera under $200 or where to find good ones?

Even though this site is Australian, it will give you a list of quite a few Digital cameras. If you roughly halve the prices shown it will give you a general idea of the prices.

All the best!

N243NW,

You might want to check the following web site here in NZ and it has a currency converter to help. Also international orders are minus the 12.5% GST (Goods and Services Tax) which only applies to New Zealand resident orders.

N243NW,

3MP should do just fine. At least I have managed to get most of my Canon EOS D30 photographs uploaded. Of course its often better to have more pixels to work with, but when the budget is tight, that is not an option.

Thanks everyone! I'll spend some time shopping and find a 3MP that suits me. Now if I only could find some time to go spotting.....
