Best Way To Go Between London - Manchester/Dublin?

Thu Aug 21, 2003 7:08 pm

Need advice,

1 What is the best route/AIRLINER to take if you are flying between London and Manchester?

2 Or is the train better?? (if so,how many hours)

3 And best AIRLINE between London and Dublin or Shannon?

What I mean be best is frequencies and price.

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Funny that you would start a thread like this as I am currently trying to find a good price on a Dublin to London flight Big grin
If your flying date is in August or want to fly to LHR, go EI and forget about BA and BD, they're wayyyy to expensive.
If you're flying to anything else than LHR, then FR's going to have the best price.
If your flying date is anywhere after September 27thg, MyTravel Lite are launching a new service from LHR (or was it LGW ?) at rock bottom prices.

1) LHR-MAN

BD will be slightly cheaper, but BA has the best service. Don't take the train, both airlines are bookable between 50-60£.

2) LHR-DUB/SNN

If you want to have some fun, I recommend the following: take EI or BD to DUB (avoid booking under a BA flightnr, since BA is in several cases more expensive on this route, while the flight is operated by EI anyway). Once in DUB, you can take an EI flight to SNN, and the flights between DUB and SNN are operated with the Airbus A330.

I have done this a few weeks ago, and being on an A330 for the 30min hop is really a nice experience.

The flight I took stopped in SNN and continued to BWI. So when I boarded in DUB, also my seat was equipped with a napkin/headsets etc etc.

A very memorable experience! Not that cheap for such a short flight (about 100$).

Frederic

LHR - MAN is a 30 minute flight - at most it takes an hour depending on London traffic. The service differences on such a short flight are minimal between bmi and BA, but if you want to pay 10 pounds or more extra for a sandwich then go with BA. Bmi are cheaper and you get the usual complimentary bar and a small bag of nibbles.

As already said, DO NOT TAKE THE TRAIN! After having travelled to London from Manchester by both modes of transport - with fare's so low for flying down I would always take the plane over the train given the choice.

Sorry their service to Dublin is from BHX not LHR or LGW.
There is indeed already a price war on DUB / BHX led by FR but I fear train or bus to BHX from MAN would soon erode any savings.

DUB / SNN is either an EI Airbus 330 -300 or 330 - 200 (BWI & LAX flights). Aer Arann pulled off the route.
DL and US fly it too, but have no rights if you are not continuing transatlantic.
