Brag About Your Gear Here!

Thu Aug 28, 2003 3:40 am

Let's hear from all you A.net contributors out there, amateurs and pros alike. What kind of equipment and film do you primarily use and how do you carry it around?

Minolta Maxxum 7
Tokina AF 28-80mm f2.8 ATX-Pro
Minolta Maxxum AF 50mm f2.8 Macro
Tamron AF 75-300mm f4-5.6
Tiffen Filters
Sunpak 66oi UT tripod
Lowepro Microtrekker 100 w/ Street & Field accessories
Mostly shoot w/ Fuji Provia 100

This humble system totally suits my needs for everything from aviation to landscapes and nature.

Since a lot of us are constantly changinf our gear, it is good to have a thread like this to see who is doing what.

I am currently on.....

Canon EOS 10D
Canon 70-200 F4 L
Sigma 170-500 F5.0-5.6 APO
Sigma 17-35 F2.8-4.0 EX HSM

The 170-500 is actually rated at F5.6-6.3, but with the 10D set to 1/3 stop increments, I get F5.0-5.6.

The 17-35 is new and I have not used it for aviation yet. It is mainly used as my travel lens.

I also still have my EOS30 and Canon FS4000 scanner with Sensia & Provia waiting patiently in the wings.

Regards,
Craig.

I just got a Canon Elan 7E (with battery pack) to replace my rebel. I love it so far, but kind of regret not getting a digital body instead. For lenses, I have 2 Sigma EXs: a 24mm, and a 105mm. These are great, but the lens that still gets the most use is a horrible Quantaray 70-300. I have been meaning to get a nice 70-200 for a long time now to replace this.

Nothing to brag about here. I shoot with an old second-hand D30 using a plain Canon 75-300 lens (the cheap one), plus I have a low-end 28-90 lens and a Vivitar (!) 17-35 cheap lens and I own a $19 tripod from Wal-Mart and a camera bag, plus a MindStor digital wallet which isnt even made anymore and one cf card.

that's it.

Oh yeah, and it takes decent pictures too.

Wow - glad to see Alex's lineup - I'm not the only lunatic here after all  Smile

Canon
10D, D60
300 f4 LIS (favorite lens!)
70-200 f2.8 LIS
24-85 USM (best bargain from Canon?)
50mm f1.8
550EX flash
and of course the infamous x2 & 1.4 convertors
polarizer (which I use occasionally)
bunch of other filters (which I don't)

Sigma
14mm

2x256, 1x 512 and 1x 1gb CF
Viao lap top

and, purely for sentimental reasons, a Canon F1 with 50 and 35mm lenses

Oh, yes, with reference to Andy's comment - a very large dog (even more than Gary could eat  Smile)

Cheers,

Colin

My current kit is:
Nikon F65
28-100 Nikkor AFG
70-300 Nikkor AFG
Hoya filters UV(0) & polarising

Nothing to brag about really!

I really like this camera and lenses - it's very light to carry round. I can get the body, lenses, filters, flash, spare film, blower brush, etc. in a pretty small camera bag. Although the camera is auto-focus and auto-exposure, it has all the required manual overrides to give me total flexibility. I am just about to start photographing planes again, but haven't decided what film to use yet. I have no interest in switching to digital!

My old kit was:
Nikkormat FT3
28mm Tamron
50mm Nikkor
120-300 Tamron

This camera really is old school now. It weighs a ton, but is totally solid. Naturally, given it's about 30 years old, it's totally manual. I used to shoot aviation only on K64 - I've only just recently started scanning and uploading some of my stuff. When I look at some of the shots I've got of stuff landing at LHR, I'm actually staggered I managed to focus, expose, compose and shoot without screwing something up! Must have been youth I suppose  Smile

I'll jump in.....

Nikon D100
Nikon N80

Sigma 17-35 f2.8-4 soon to be replaced with either Nikon 12-24 f4 or the new Fisheye which is due to come out early Oct.
Nikon24-105 f3.5-5.6
Nikon 80-200 f2.8
Nikon 400 f2.8
Nikon teleconverter TC-20E

and a heavy duty tripod Gitzo 1548 with a ball head to hold 7 kgs (16lbs) of equipment.
To carry this all around is a pain but the Tamrac Expedtion 8 helps.

Still planning on getting the SB-80DX or even the sucessor of this fine flash.

Canon EOS33
Canon 28-70 f2.8 L
Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6 L IS

Will sell the 100-400 soon and buy a 70-200 f2.8 L, because I'm seriously handicapped with the 70-100 gap. Before I had the 28-105 so this was not an issue.

Later this year I'll buy an EOS1V HS.

I'm a happy Canonowner since 3-4 months back. I upgraded from a Minolta D7.
The step was equally big moneywise as qualitywise, i guess the rule "you get what you pay for" applies here.
A lot of money has been spent, but i don't regret any of it.
I usually don't talk - or as the title suggests /brag/ - about my equipment but i thought a post in this thread might help others to decide what stuff to invest in.

Canon Eos 10D + grip.
Canon EF 70-200L IS USM
2 Canon BP-511 batteries.
1 512 MB CF card
2 256 MB CF cards
Hoya Super HMC Pro1 multicoated UV-filter (whatta overkill name *g*)
Lowepro Nova 5 camerabag
Cleaningstuff

Future upgrades will probably include the EF 100-400L IS USM lens and a wideangle lens.
