I've had an Image Tank for a while now... The problems that befell Tamsin and Tom (sorry to hear about them!) are now well documented on dpreview so I've been very cautious about using it only for flash card copies, I don't delete the directories and files from the IT
, but instead I periodically reformat the whole IT
drive from my desk top PC
When I've been away, I've usually had the opportunity to connect the IT
to a PC
once in a while, and I've done so just to check that the files are there - often I've been able to do that before I format the flash cards, as I have 2.5GB in flash anyway. Having had no errors so far (touch wood) I am now much more happy to trust the IT
, using it within the operating constraints now documented on various websites. I have to say that despite all my paranioa, the IT
was worked flawlessly so far and for the price I consider it a bargain.
I shoud add that by nature I am very cautious though... For example, I never format flash cards until I need them emptied again, even if they're copied to the IT. I never format the IT drive until I've copied it onto the desktop PC and I've burned CD copies. Basically, the more copies of an image I have the happier I am, and I just don't delete stuff from anywhere until I have to.
