Gloomy Seattle?

Mon Sep 15, 2003 4:03 am

It may have rained a bit too much for my liking while I was there, but sometimes just sitting in the rain and watching jets can be relaxing. This beauty just presented what I think is a "striking" pose, even if it was dark and raining. I had to sharpen it more then I wanted to get it accepted, but I still like the mood.

Jeff,
Sorry I missed you this time around. Last week was a complete shit sandwich for me at work. Couldn't get away to shoot.

This whole summer has been fantastic here in Seattle. (Record-breaking high temps and virtually no rain.) Which worries me. It worries me because we'll being paying for it this winter I'll bet. I'm going to try and get out as much as possible before the gray, 9 hour days return.

When I took this shot, the weather was typical for February here. Crap.

In retrospect, it actually worked out pretty well. With the light as diffuse as it was, the white fuselage didn't blow out as bad as usual. And, I love the dark, gloomy backdrop.

Hope you had fun. Did Royal take you to the Lusty Lady on First Ave.? I think he's got VIP status there.  Big grin

Rain can indeed be fun at times, especially those moments when the sun shines through for the first time  Smile

Wow, I guess I need to pay more attention...there are lots of great rainy day shots here.

Bill, sorry I missed you, my scheduel got off track as well as I ended up driving up to Billingham (sp?) way up north on wednesday evening, so I only had the opportunity to shoot with Royal on tuesday afternoon, and then I met Randy for breakfast on thursday. Royal was going to let me borrow Sam Chui's ladder but he thought I would be safer just shooting through the gap in the fence. I guess Sam has bad taste in ladders.

Royal must want to keep the Lusty Lady to himself, maybe next time?

Randy, good meeting you as well, sorry to hear none of your shots from thursday morning worked out, but it was kind of crummy. It was much "cleaner" light later in the afternoon over at BFI. Next time I come out, we'll shoot in better weather hopefully.

"standing on a brick"

So it was your brick at 26 Gary, and you just carry around where ever you go

I had some pretty good pics come out of a snow squall while in the terminal at CVG last winter. When I took them I never really expected to have decent pics come out of it.....but the result wasn't to bad.

Gloomy weather is part of life and to those who can capture it's essence - like Jeff did with his excellent Gulfstream photo - keep up the great work.

Too much bright sun and blue sky makes me want to run away and hide sometimes..

These cool, dark shots are refreshing...

I remember that weather, kind of (at any rate, it was like that in Flagstaff last month, but that's gone now, we have nothing but blue skies, and nothing to shoot...:,-))
Here's my contribution on gloomy weather from PDX.

I like this one because, it presents itself with "natural boarders"
