.CANONMSC Folder. What Is It? Do I Need It?

Sun Sep 21, 2003 2:51 am

Ever since getting my D60, I've always wondered what the purpose of this folder is. In it are "CTG" files. I assume it is some sort of formatting file. When I archive to CD, I keep them, but do I need to? Is there any harm in just deleting them? Are they files only needed by the camera?

I searched the web, but didn't find much. Sorry if it's been discussed already, but the forum search is still limited.

Thanks,

Bill

How do you get them? Where do they appear? Never seen something like that before... you dont need them. just archiving the RAWs should be enough

When I open the contents of a CF card, the first thing that shows is a DCIM folder. In that are the folders of images (i.e.: 272CANON) and the CANONMSC folder.

The CTG files in the CANONMSC folder are usually no bigger than a few K each.

Must be format information or something. I dont use a card reader, I dl directly from the camera, so I dont see that stuff. You dont need it for archiving
