Sister Site Myaviation.net?

Sun Sep 21, 2003 6:21 am

I noticed on the upload page that we now have the option to have our photos also included on a new site called myaviation.net. It says this site has no rejections and photogs can edit and delete their photos on their own.
Sounds good as a backup site! Any more details on what's behind it?

Is airliners.net now trying to compete with the low-quality-crowd?

That's a bit like a high frills airline opening up a LCC to blast the competition out of the sky  Laugh out loud  Laugh out loud

Is that really true??

Just looked at the main page... looks cool to me.... Jetphotos.net are probably already shaking in their boots!

Sounds like a really good site. The photos go through no screening process and photographers are able to add and delete their photos when they want to. Nice one a.net!

Hi all

Henrik has another site with similar design, cardatabase.net
Add you car pics there....I have  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I just hope the site is used carefully as anyone could upload the crap stuff there. Probably reach about 100,000 images within a week!

Cheers

Aaaarg, the April joke of carliners.net has come true!!!!!

More seriously: Could not find any photos of an Opel Chevett, the only car photos I'm interested in at the moment...

The solution to the size problem is simple. Just use a time limit for the photos - no photo stays longer than 90 days in myaviation.net, for example, and then there is no db capacity problem

Now the screeners will have both hands full - not just airliners.net standard uploads, but the others too, and they need to be checked to avoid porn... Good luck guys!

(I'll wait to upload my resolutionally challenged extraordinary flatbed scans (NO NOT CRAP SCANS!!!) until myaviation.net gets its own upload page, so the screeners at airliners.net aren't bothered with looking for flaws, as they will know that there'll be plenty of those.)

The site is very slow, I couldn't see a single photo within 1 minute waiting time.

That site worked just fine (fast) enough for me..was able to see the pix.

Design licensed out from A.net; read the "About" section --
The Car Database is interesting too; has potential.

Maritime or wildlife would be great to see.

Going to be odd without *any* rejections though..

You gots to be kidding me....  Wow!

Maybe the screeners will get a break here from some of the 'real bad' constant rejects with this new site  Big grin

The modified airliners site is really cool though.

Wow... pretty funky. I'm sure theres a lot of potential here but I wonder what airliners.net is trying to do with this new idea since the a.net database itself offers over 400,000 photos, with most of them being HQ...

Pretty cool anyway and I hope it lasts.. Can't wait to upload a photo to a.net and get it on there as well so I can register as a photog, I've been waiting to upload a new C-130 photo anyway  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

So, I guess that means Photoshop jobs now have a home on the internet? That flying engine-less MD-11 I have sitting somewhere is waiting to be uploaded...  Big grin

Will there ever be a railroad photography website? I know there are quite a few loco-spotters out there, I think it could be a great site!

Perhaps there may already even be one that I have not seen... any info?

9A-CRO: That was a sister site of jetphotos.net.

Found here ?

Pretty sh*te as they don't have any cool trains in it at all. No ICE, ICT, Eurostar, TGV, Bullet Trains, nothing modern, just American trains.

Ikarus,

If you do a search for 'United Kingdom' you should get some results, so far I think 90% of the UK shots are mine but hopefully that will change as time passes. Ben Wang has a Eurostar picture on there, there is also quite a bit of Dutch stuff too.

I'm wondering what effect the new site will have - I'm not against the principle of having a sort of sandpit site where less strict rules apply, but is this the best way to approach it?

Surely there is a danger whereby people might upload sub - A.net quality shots with the idea that it might luck through on to A.net, but in any case it will end up on a site regardless. Will the screeners get overwhelmed by an increased quantity of low quality material?

It may be necessary to have separate submission forms.

Off topic - does anyone know of a marine equivalent to A.net?

Cheers,

Colin

I am still a bit confused at the whole concept.

On the upload page it has a check box to upload to both sites. Well, if you have a photo that is good enough for airliners.net then why would you want it on the other site?

will myaviation.net get the same exposure that airliners does? Our photos on here get a lot of visitors.

I think that there should be some standards for it. I mean, the basic stuff like photos that have a partial white border or are quite obviously out of focus even to a non-photographers. I like the idea of myaviation.net but with a "lite" screening so to not get photos like this one

Hey, any budding songwriters and poets out there! Try to come up with lyrics for a MyAviation.net anthem or them song.

Base it on The Who's "My Generation".

Re the railroad data base, check out:

At first it accepted only from North America, but is now taking shots from all locations.

I think people are missing the point of MyAviation. I believe the main reason for it is so that photographers will have their own URL. They will be able to link to their MyAviation photos from other web sites. This feature is not working yet.

We have a choice of uploading photos to both sites or just one of them. Right now I'm concentrating on what I consider to be the best of my a.net rejects - particularly the rarer planes at a particular airport.

For rail pics in Europe I would suggest the European Railway Server. The 'front end' is a bit spartan looking but there's plenty of info and pictures there for us Europeans. Its a shame its not of airliners net standards, but its the best there is. I have never uploaded to it, may do so one day if I ever have time. Anyway, its at
