There is no real answer to your question...but you will get plenty of questions to your question..  Smile

1. Do you want to go film or digital?

2. Do you want to go point and shoot or SLR/DSLR?

3, Do you already have an existing setup of Canon/Nikon/Pentax etc...?

If you want to go film I would suggest a good SLR and a couple of excellent lenses. Canon or Nikon would be your best bet, tho there are some other great cameras out there. On top of that I would get a good zoom lens, the best that you can afford.
You will have to decide on shooting slides or prints. If you want to display photos here or on another site you will need a quality scanner and the computer equipment to handle the editing. Slides can be very rewarding, but are not forgiving when shooting and scanning is an art unto itself.

If you choose to go digital and can afford it I would go for the Canon 10D or Nikon D100. (look at sites like Dpreview before buying and judge for yourself. Remember that the digital world is moving FAST.)
Again you will need the computer setup to do the editing etc...

Hope that helps....

There is no best camera. Buy a cheaper camera and spend some time reading photography books or take some classes.

Well right now I own a Sony cybershot 3.2 mega pixels digital camera that I paid 400.00 for, so obviously I need a better camera weather its digital or film and I don't have any other equipment.

personally, [one of the] keys to getting good aircraft shots is the shutter speed. a higher end camera is obviously bound to give you better overall results, but why spend thousands if you could save a heck of alot more? you can get a.net shots with any camera--its the photographer who takes the picture, not the camera. so with a little work, and a decently advanced camera, you can get pretty darn good looking shots.

i have the olympus c-740uz, and im extremely satisfied with it. although i would grab a 10D or D100 any day, a little tweaking and my camera was set to get me up on a.net.
What the FUTT?

For me the Sony F717 is a great camera, if you search my name, Grant Feggi you will find a bunch of day and night shots, i get an email a day regarding my night shots, people seem to enjoy them. Yes it is a point and shoot, but for $2000 you can get the camera and a good teleconverter ( you will need it for distance shoots ) and you will be off to the races. I think that i will be keeping this one for a while, when i need a change is when the screeners get even pickyer! but i think i have a while yet,

Cheers,

Grant
