Well, it is an exam on your patience to go those places, Justin! Those place sometimes can get one plane every hour, definity not JFK
I recommend Peru if you can't visit both at once, (which I enjoyed slightly more than Chile.) Try to go to Cuzco for spotting, you get about 12 arrivals and departure everyday. You can book direct airfare after arrive from Lima, also recommend you to combine spotting and sightseeing, even a border crossing to Bolivia, (which I bite myself don't have the time to do it!) I hope you can go one step more than I did. Andy Martin also have some shots from Bolivia--mainly props.
Cuzco Rwy heading is 10/28, it is generally a morning ops. airport, in afternoon there is only 1 Lan Peru arrival due to the wind problem in the afternoon. Best season I beleive is June-Sept, when I was there, the weather is fabulous, the most deep blue sky Ive seen!
For more CUZ
information, you can contact Miguel Cano Alva, a very nice Peruvian spotter. I have a map of Cuzco airport, if you seriously plan to go, send me a email and I can forward to you.
Police/Military in Peru can be a problem, I was pickeed up by the police in CUZ
after standing on the road shotting for 3 hrs. But when I explained my circumstances in the police station, they understood I am only interested in Civilian, not military stuff, they let me go in 5 mins!
In Lima, you will see every 500m or so, there is arm-guarded stand around, I heard they will NOT HESISTATE to shoot at you if you do something stupid around the perimeter. I was given a offical ramp tour by the chief duty officer, even with his authority, I cannot take any planes parked on the military ramp which have a few 707/DC10.
For Santiago, please contact Alejandro Ruiz and Alvaro Romero P, both photog have some photos in the DB
Renato, I believe the TAME B727 shot is taken from afternoon turning onto the Rwy. (not morning). TAME has suspened operation into SCL
Why not go to Brazil, especially Rio, I think it is the best!
