Show Us Your Rare Shots

Tue Nov 04, 2003 3:59 am

I don't mean something like an Eva Air 747 landing at LAS, but unusual paint schemes or other odd bits.

Check this one out...everyone was wondering why they would put Virgin winglets on a Midway 737, this was just before Midway went bust

The plane was then repainted in full Virgin BLue c/s.

Here's mine, taken back when Bayswater Park was virgin ground, now it's a popular place to shoot from (if they are landing 4's)

Beautiful high contrast scene. Nice low sun light under the wing, with pitch dark clouds. Did get wet wet wet that evening, but it was sure worth the result:

You looked pretty dry on TV (in case you were the photographer with the ochre polo shirt & the 10D in hand).

The rain came later that evening when I was at the western end of the field waiting for BA001 departure to thunder overhead.

A United Nations Hercules. Pretty rare. But I have seen it there in Cyprus many times, so it surprised me that no one else had cathed her at LCA. Guess there's not much spotter activity over there...  Sad

How come Jay's pics have planes coming from the clouds tucking their geat away? I thought they tuck their geat away seconds after takeoff - not 10 thousand feet....

The only rare shots I have were rejected. It was of a Delta 752 that made a medical emergency landing in Sitka, AK this last summer. So I can't really show them since I have no where to host them really.

Yeah I was refering more to stuff that is only available for a small period of time (like a hybrid scheme) or for example that Douglas biz-jet, that thing is MEGA rare. Totally sweet, too.

Alex,

That reg. on your shot of the United/Pepsi is correct? N496UA? (can't really tell by looking at the pic) Just wanted to be sure as I thought it only existed on one plane, N497UA:

Mike,

I can personally certify that it's N496UA. I saw N497UA too, and it doesn't have a sticker anymore either.

I flew in N496UA and loaded it as well. No mistake at all. Also, check the nose number - 4696. Thanks for asking the question  Big grin I have a side-on of N496UA that shows the sticker, but I chose not to upload that one. If you want, I can send it by email  Smile.

Alex.

Rafal,

I've seen it at SFO departing to IAD. It seems to be mostly going to IAD and European destinations, but it's rare at DEN. I was very lucky to get that shot!

Mike,

I think those were the only two; can't remember seeing anything on 495...

Alex.
