The Sun Page 6 And 7

Wed Nov 12, 2003 8:26 pm

Just for you guys who shoot BA Airbuses at LHR The Sun ran a story today with a low quality picture split over pages 6 and 7. They also have the pictures on their website http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2003520562,00.html and I was wondered if they just took it as the reg seems to have been airbrushed out and the quality is that of a 72dpi jpeg blown up to A4.

What do you expect from a tabloid paper! Newspapers don't want to waste money on non celebrity photos. They lack of interest and skill.

Hmm - seems to me there is nothing to indicate this shot is from A.net - could have been shot by anyone, anytime. Guess what ... A.net is not the only source of aviation pics. It could even have come from (gasp) the "other" place.

Or just possibly it is a legitimate pic from their own library.

The problem with a thread like this is that before you know it, it will become "common knowledge" that the Sun ripped off A.net. (note how Lee suggests a possibility of a rip off, but Anders has them condemned).

This sure ain't gonna help with any potential negotiation for use of a pic, and builds up a confrontational situation in which no one wins (we've discussed this often enough in relation to security).

IMHO, its useful for us to keep an eye out for infringements, but lets have something which indicates that it has been taken from the site. Otherwise you might as well post every airliner appearing in any newspaper in the world - chances are there is something similar on A.net.

Cheers,

Colin

Keeping an open eye out should help all of us and yes please don't condem them without some sort of proof. Previous doesn't mean they have done it this time. It was the quality of the picture in the paper that looked very low and gave me the impression of an image, taken from any of the sites not just this one, blown up to fit the space.

Thought I'd say something since not everyone reads The Sun!  Big grin

I noticed this too, I just thought it was unusual that the reg was airbrushed out and the reg on the nosewheel doors had been reversed.

It was G-BUSI BTW.

Norwegian paper "Dagbladet" used 2 pages on the same story in todays paper. They had a photo covering nearly the entire double page; The front of the plane from the photo in The Sun. Quality was so bad it made me shiver.

Ben, I always READ the 3rd page. The best page has the least coverage...

Forgot to mention, beneath the large pic in the paper it said "Photo: AIRLINERS.NET", so no doubt where they found it.  Smile

Did anyone see the Concorde Final Day shots they were selling at £15 a time? The one of BOAG and Big Ben was ok, but the 27R landing shot was truly shocking-a crooked horizon and various trees obscuring the view.

Just wanted to add one more thing. The same newspaper I metioned above carried another story today regarding the drunken passenger who tried to open the emergency exit at cruising altitude onboard a Thai 747. A nice photo showing a Thai 747 from the rear departing into a very blue sky covered half the page. (I couldn't find that pic on a.net, can any of you?) It was a really nice photo, and underneath it the text "Photo: Airlainer.net"

They were unable to get it right this time.  Smile
