C-750, F717, Or D300?

Sat Dec 06, 2003 11:40 am

Hey Everyone,

I was just wondering, between the Olympus C-750, the Sony F717 and the Canon D300, which is more worth the money? Should I spend more for the D300 or is the F717 good enough for aviation photography. And what about the F717 compared to the C-750?

Any help would be appreciated,

Benoit

All depends on what you want to do with it. They are all suitable cameras in their own right.

If you buy the digital rebel I hope you put aside a few thousand more for lenses. I started off HEY! I will just get the 10D and a lens. Then it was Oh! I need a telephoto. Then Oh! I need a wide angle. Then OH! I need a quick lens for indoor sports. I'm not saying this is a bad thing. Its just expensive... Smile/happy/getting dizzy

here in Canada
C-750Uz is 800 bucks, F717 is 1000 bucks and D300 Digital Rebel is 1500 Bucks.
Increments of increase of a few hundred bucks. Save up and get a DRebel.
I have an C750UZ and I love it but 6.3MP can't be beat from Canon.
ORrrrr, buy an Sony DSC-F828 for 1500 bones. 8MP is just unbelivable!!!  Wow!

The Canon 300D leaves you the most room for growth with an excellent line of EOS lenses. Invest in those lenses and you can use them on any EOS camera, film or digital in the future. If you decide you have outgrown your 300D and want to move up you can sell it or use it as a second body and still have the same lenses.

Personally I would go with the DSLR if you are serious about photography in the long run and want to drop some money into it.

My 2 cents.  Smile

...or, you could save yourself a chunk of change and get a secondhand D30 and some good quality lenses!

You may be thinking "But it's only 3.2Mp!" but seriously, check out this thread to see what can be achieved with only 3.2Mp!!!

Cheers!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the advice. I was getting interested in the F717 because I used it at school in the studio and the image quality was superb. I don't know the kind of results you get in aviation photography though. Maybe I should wait and get the D300.

Rez: How much do you think I could get a used D30 for? I live in Canada btw.

Thanks in advance,
Benoit

Could Rez or anyone with a D30 send me a file from straight out of the camera so I can compare a 3.2mp photo from a DSLR to the C-740 and the 300D (if you have some spare time of course and also one that is "average" not your best)? My e-mail is ryankask@aol.com. Thanks a lot!

Bo i really think that the 828 is going to be an awesome camera,

Hey Rez, I would like to say i am friends with Andy (Dripstick), another D30 user, I am sure his lenses are the difference, as any D30 user. I will say it time and time again, its the indian, not the arrow....or its the photog not the camera. Dripper is a fantastic photographer, I don't think it matters what camera is in his hands....as long as its decent! I am wondering what the diffences the D30 would have over a 10D? I personally think that if this is a first time user, nothing could be simpler than a Sony or Olympus. I think i will get into the DSLR when I have time to take a course on photography!!

Hey all,

I've been looking at shots taken with the F717 and they seems to be below par compared to the Nikon 5700 and the Olympus C-750. Is this just my impression or is it true?

Thanks,

Benoit
