Sigma AF 50-500

Wed Dec 17, 2003 11:39 am

Hi,

Just to be sure:

Is this lens available in 2 versions??
HSM or not?
What difference does HSM?

Thx for the advice!

From what I read on the Sigma web site is this. AF Mount HSM: Sigma, Canon(EF) and Nikon(D).
AF Mount: Minolta, Pentax. I believe the non HSM is for Minolta and Pentex. The HSM is similar to the Canon USM. The following is a quote from Sigma's site " And with the HSM autofocus drive (Canon, Nikon and Sigma AF models only) it is incredibly quiet and quick when autofocusing, and you can focus manually without having to disengage the AF mode. In addition, this lens can be used with Sigma's two EX teleconverters for additional versatility (manual focus only)."
B&H photo has a good price on this lens. 900+change. I hope this helps...Artie

HSM is Sigma's Hypersonic Motor, like Canons Ultra Sonic Motor, and I forget what Nikon calls theirs.

There are a couple of threads recently which deal with this lens in more detail if you want to try a search. I have seen some nice results posted with it, just can't remember who did it!  Smile

My latest photos were taken with the Sigma 50-500 (Canon mount) HSM which I really like. Much more impressive though are Sven De Bevere's shots who (I think...) uses the 50-500. He has some incredible pictures so check them out!
