Help! Buying A New Lense!

Wed Dec 24, 2003 8:05 am

Hello!

I'm using at the moment Sigma's 4,5-5,6/135-400 C/AF 77 and I'm going to go to Canon's EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L USM IS! The question is where to buy it with less money? I live in Finland and it costs around $2400 here!!! I can buy it via the internet from Germany where I bought the Sigma lense and that'll cost around $2200!! I know that it's very cheap in US (around $1600) and I would like to buy it from US... Where to buy it via Internet? Are there any shops in US which deliveres to Europe also?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks in advance and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!!

B&H would be a good place to buy from.
Also have a look at a secondhand one at Ebay!

I buy from B&H as well, but I do live in the U.S.

Spend that money, and you get some great big catalogs later!  Big grin

Do you have to pay import duties to ship that lens to Finland? Check it out beforehand, as it could make a big difference on how much money you're actually going to save.

Hi all!

Thank you very much for your replies! I really appreciate your help! I don't know how much I have to pay for the delivery and I think that I also have to pay some taxes to the customs... Will see about that! Staffan, thank you for that link! I have been buying stuff from New York Camera in Germany and it's more expensive there. In short time I'll be a new proud owner of Canon's 100-400!  Big thumbs up

Thank you again and MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone!

Does anyone have more info on AC-Foto? Do they have a shop in Aachen also for the new equipment or only for the second-hand cameras and accessories? I'm thinking of going there some day and check for their variety. I hope they can speak some English there, though.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Yes you have to pay import duties amounting to your local VAT (salestax) plus a surcharge (typically 5-10% with a minimum of €10 or so) over both the product cost and shipping.
This typically adds 20-30% to the price of the item plus shipping cost.

The same is true for Ebay orders as well, and also for items shipped by private persons!
Do NOT try to have someone send it to you marked as 'gift', you're likely to face having to pay the charges and an additional fine for attempted tax evasion. EU customs officials have started cracking down hard on this and successfully so.

Last time I checked B&H shipping on a similar item to Europe that cost was a minimum of $60 (via USPS, UPC or FedEx is a lot more).

Joge, with your language genius a bit of German should be no problem  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
AC Photo used to be listed on Nikon Germany's website as an authorised dealer (Nikon discontinued that list). Can't tell how much credibility that gives to the operation but decide for yourself...

Joge,

I've bought all my stuff in from AC-foto in Aachen, the shop is called "Ring Foto" or "Foto Ring", or something like that. They speak quite a few languages very well, so that's no problem.

I usually call or mail them a few days before I go there to see if they have what I want in stock, they usually have.

All in all, a very good shop.

Merry Christmas!

Staffan

(Mail me if you want directions to the shop)
