Sometimes location just dictates what to shoot, but try to avoid backlit subjects. It just works against you unless you really know what you are doing and/or are trying for a certain effect.
You might be able to save this by playing levels as noted above. I think you could use a bit of USM

The light playing on the prop is nice and the photo has potential. Half the battle can be in your post processing so keep at it!
