Airport Terraces For Spotting

Mon Jan 05, 2004 7:44 pm

Hi!

Which european airports have terraces for spotting? FRA has and is open. Anymore? It has to be open frequently, pictures from those places are welcome.

Bye!

The Düsseldorf International has two premium box-seats to watch the show of aircraft traffic at the Düsseldorf International Airport. You can experience the airport activity live from the terminal, from the rail station or both!
From the observation deck on the roof of the new concourse B (see airport map) you can watch the air traffic on the apron and the aircraft dispatch procedures. You get to the observation platform from the third floor of the terminal.

A fascinating view of the airport grounds, including the takeoff and landing runways, can be enjoyed from the observation deck at the rail station (see airport map). The platform covers the entire gallery level of the rail station and is divided into open-air and enclosed sections.

Just one ticket gives you admission to both observation decks. Because the rail station and terminal are quite far apart, we recommend using our SkyTrain service to get from one observation terrace to the other. The ticket for the observation deck is also your ticket for the SkyTrain.

Opening Hours: Summer (30.3. bis 25.10.): daily from 06:00 to 21:00 hours
Winter (26.10. bis 29.3.): daily from 09:00 to 20:00 hours
Prices: 2.00 Euro for adults
1.50 Euro for the handicapped, senior citizens, and students
1.00 Euro for children under 16 and groups of 20 or more
Children under six get in free

I thought LHR terrace had been closed due to security reasons.

"Better question would be which US airport have a terrace"

Our american friends are not going to be delighted when reading this phrase.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

LHR is closed, and will remain closed in the near future, due to 'security reasons'

Stuttgart (STR) offers an observation deck as well - however not the first choice for pictures at our airport...

Here is the Manchester (EGCC) viewing park on a special day, and on a normal day. Good for photography from mid-afternoon to sunset with the sun behind you. Good for general spotting all day as every single aircraft movement can be seen from here, regardless of wind direction or runway in use.

They have two static displays, an Avro RJX-100 and the front fuselage and nose of a DC-10. These are soon to be joined by a BA Concorde.

Regards,
Craig.

There's one at WAW, along the terminal building, over jetways, as shown on the photo below:

Currently closed for security reasons, fortunately is going to be open soon. Good view for runways

but one serious disadvantage for photographers: nearly all day against the sun. There's a solution though - night photos  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Sorry to hear LHR terrace is closed. The finals are still quite nice places to spot, though.

Anyway, forgot to mention BUD:

Leave your girlfriend at the Galeria Mokotow shopping mall and take a taxi or the 189 and 175/188 buses to the airport and enjoy the terrace. it should be opened by March. At least I hope so.

Peter,

all I got is not confirmed info, that it should be open in the 'nearest future'. Hopefully before the end of February.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
