Why Is This A Bad Motive?

Tue Jan 06, 2004 10:05 pm

This one was rejected for low esthetics (badmotiv).

I think it's a rather clean motive, but it would be nice to hear from others with different view than my own eyes.

I think its because its a shot at the gate, I think to get accepted they have to be of very good quality or of a rare subject, as Johan isn't too keen on gate shots. Yours isn't so bad because there aren't many ramp lice, doors open etc.

Its borderline, IMO.

badmotiv??

It looks good to me, but then again so did several other shots I've had rejected in the past 24hrs, (a new record for me)

I am at a loss to explain the screening standards at the moment. Will just have to press on and eliminate several more I had considered uploading today; perhaps try again in a few weeks.

Nice shot. Perhaps you could downsize it to 1024 pixels to improve quality.

Badmotiv? Not so sure. Unless the screeners are spring-loaded to reject gate shots. I like this one for a good look at an airline and airport I don't see every day.

If I had a criticism it would be this. It's just too bad the sun didn't come out full-bright just long enough to take the shot. The combination of high latitude and overcast makes the light rather flat. Just something you have to deal with when shooting in such conditions.

Maybe it's the vehicle that you cropped/cut out at the bottom left corner. Everything else is just fine.
I recently uploaded a night shot which has a vehicle cut just like you do on your picture. I wonder on the screening results...
How much A is there is Airliners Net ? 0 or nothing ?

Could it be because part of the wing is cut off and it's unlevel?

Other then that, looks good  Smile

Not a bad image at all Kj, as a lot of gate shots go, but simply not the sort of contribution A.net is seeking to acquire.

Have a look at the other examples of this registration in the database... (after 2000 anyway..)

I think it is the Jet Way they don't like these kinds of shots here

Even though I like it

Must have been mainly because of the Jet Way together with the light conditions. Try to catch the planes when the Jet Way is removed (during arrival or prior to push-back).

Anyway a nice picture even it´s not meeting A.net standards to 100%.

Keep your shots comin´.

All of you, thanks for your comments and evaluation. I agree with you mostly, that this motive is very common in the database. I could just not quite understand the bad estethics message... And by the way, this was accepted:

After all, the picture of the 737-700 is not "incredible" good... Just average i think.

Happy new year to you all

Well i must say i realy like the shot. I think there's nothing worse than a picture of an aircraft just landing (backdrop sky) or a taxi shot (backdrop grass) with nothing else. Just a plane......

I much prefere this type of shoot with all the action going on around the plane.

What I learned out the many rejections...might be that it's like an all white shot. I mean it's a great motive, good quality, looks fine to me, but having an almost entirely white fuselage on white snow with a grey sky and grey-white background...

The second shot You posted was different, as it showed more "life" in the sense of the all red nose and the clean ground, more colorful...

But still a good one though!

Kejll,

I like it a lot... I think that the reject reasons may sound a little harsh, that is NOT a bad motive. Maybe they (the screeners) needs to be more selective nowdays because the pictures takes a lot of disk space, I don't know.. Wait a minute! Don't I recognize this view? I never been to Trondheim... AHA! The Heros of Telemark! The movie with Kirk Dogulas from the mid 1960's...

Seriously, photographing in Norway is very rewarding, be it airplanes, landing strips or nature motives. And after viewing some 200 of your previously uploaded pictures, I must say this: You can do much much better than the one that was rejected. I've seen it. Look here:

Hmm, I can't see the reason for the badmotiv verdict. The contrast is good even though both the aircraft and the background are pretty white so in my opinion it should have been accepted.

By the way, didn't Braathens go down under a few years back or did I miss something?

Twistedwhisper, Telemark is a tiny bit farther south, but I guess it looks almost the same  Big grin - And i'm not sure if all of those pictures are so beatiful, some of them are partly badly scanned, and taken with lousy equipment, but thanks for your compliments  Smile It's getting better all the time - By the way (hope i'm not stoned for mentioning) most of my pictures are at airpics.com, just do a search for my name.

Asgeirs, Braathens probably would have gone under if not Scandinavian (SAS) bought the whole thing. They are a part of the SAS group now, but luckily under their own name... We'll just see how long that lasts.

Have a nice weekend everyone
