I can make it on Sunday, either morning or afternoon. Gotta be at work by 4 though. Vitaly will make it there too, but if it's too late, someone will have to give him a ride.

I have called and had numerous email exchanges with Ops and the City and County people over access to the hill and other areas. All of this taking place over a year's time. Numerous attempts, same response. Personally I don't think this is the right time to persue access, that hill isn't going anywhere. Tread lightly if your going to do this.

I think the most important factor is that whatever we do, we do it as a group. All photogs instead of one person asking may make a huge difference. I don't mind waiting until the level of risk is lowered.
All I'm saying is lets meet on sunday and discuss those issues. I'm sure we can agree on a plan. If later is better, so be it.

Im scheduled to land at DEN at 11:45 AM on Sunday, and I have to be back in my dorm at Boulder by 2:30 at the latest to catch the kickoff of the Eagles game, so that would mean that I'd have to leave the airport area around 1:30, so between 12-1:30 I would be free at the airport if that helps...

Hisham,

Denver at 10am sounds great. Now, which place should we meet up at? As for going as a group, we should definitely wait until the paranoia goes down a little bit and so does the alert level. We should also wait for Mark Abbott and others to join us... we should all go as a group. Oh yeah, and Airport Ops building is closed on Sunday anyway  Big grin.

Looking forward to meeting you all again, Jeff, be there too. I still need to give you a copy of Photoshop CS, and that would be a good place to do that.

I want to thank everybody for showing up today! I wasn't expecting the meeting to be that successful. I think the Denver police deserve special thanks for their time and understanding specially under the current conditions.

I still can't believe the cops have a poster size photo of me in their car!!  Nuts The last few weeks have been quite stressful for me but I don't regret my decision to do my photography with all the risk involved. I apologize if my presence has caused you any inconvenience in your spotting. Hopefully, we can reverse that soon.

Hope to see you all in the field!

Hisham.

I'll second what Hisham said. I was the "doubting Thomas" going into this, but maybe with a little luck this will work out. I was impressed at the overall level of interest generated today. I think at one time we had 4 police cars there with us.

I will email everyone when I get contacted by DPD or the guy from the FBI in regards to the first meeting. Things just might be looking up.

Now we just need to fill in Greg, Mark, Craig, and ?? Did I miss someone?

For those who weren't there,

Like Jeff said, we're waiting for a call from the DEN police regarding the meeting with ops and FBI. That should be within a week or two. Naturally, nothing is decided until then. Links to your photos will be needed. A few prints will also be helpful, have them ready before the meeting. Some other personal information may be needed but that will have to be negotiated among us and with the authorities.

Let us know if you're interested.

Craig was out of town. He's interested in joining us.

Hey everyone, it's Craig.
I finally sucked it up and decided to pay the small fee to get a membership.
Sorry I wasn't able to attend the meeting yesterday. I had spent hours flying back from KSAN with a friend Saturday and was beat. Didn't even check email until Sunday afternoon. Thanks again for the invite, Hisham.
It sounds like you all might have made some headway. Great job! I'd be interested in joining you for the next meeting to help the cause and meet some more of you.
We might want to consider setting up a group leader or "secretary" that has an email addy for all of us to notify everyone of important events. I don't always have time to check the boards here and sometimes I go days between visiting a.net. Just a thought!
Hope to see you all soon.

PS - How do I get my username to appear like this: CFIcraigAPA. It shows up like that in the profile, but when I post, it becomes Cficraigapa.

The term "Mile High Club" refers to two people engaging in sexual activity (sexual intercourse) at an altitude of no less than 5,280 ft (a mile high above the earth) in an airplane.

Now, most veteran pilots will tell you that you need to be at the controls of an airplane in order to claim membership in this exclusive club. But over the years, the term Mile High Club has included those who make their mark in the lavatories aboard jetliners across the globe.

To spare the embarrassment for those who aren't quite daring enough to make their way back to the lav on a red-eye or transatlantic flight, mile high operations have been cropping up all over the country, offering couples the chance to climb aboard a custom-outfitted aircraft for their aerial pleasures.

Greg,
I tried most labs in Boulder. You can get better deals and quality online.

http://www.ofoto.com is my favorite. The only problem is that they only have heavily cropped 8X10s. If you need full-frame 8X12s try http://www.ezprints.com/.

If they have a Wal-Mart up there, just bring 'em there and run them off on the Fuji Frontier machine. Very good prints, very inexpensive. And in an hour.

Welcome back Greg....

Actually, I think Walgreens or Rite-Aid is doing them on the same machine. Same with Sam's Club and or Costco if you have membership there. If not, Westminster? Hell, you may have to make a road trip out of it...

guys, finally got a reply from my 'source' at DIA. Things are not looking good. But, he is not an OPS guy, so maybe there still is something that can be done, though I have not heard anything from the people the Denver policemen mentioned...

"Hi Jeff,
I've talked to our head of security and the head of security for the
Transportation Security Administration in Denver. Right now, both are very
concerned about the recent threat level elevation and the on-going
possibility that aviation could be a future target for terrorism.

They both had no idea what the policeman was talking about when he mentioned
a waiver, but they both agree that one does not exist and probably never
will. In fact, in light of the events of the last couple of months, we're
probably going to get even stricter with our regulations against
photography.

What this all boils down to is I am no longer able to give you or anybody
else permission to stand around and shoot pictures. Now, you can still come
out here and take your chances, but all Operations and law enforcement
personnel are being given instructions to chase all photographers off unless
they are being escorted by airport personnel. And unless you have a
demonstrated need to take pictures (media, paying us for advertising, etc)
we don't have the staff to escort everybody. You may get caught, you may
not. But clearing things in advance won't matter anymore.

I'm sorry that it has come to this, and I do appreciate how patient you have
been with this situation. This group you are talking about will run
into the same roadblocks as well. Unfortunately, this is a very tense time
for the aviation industry and with all the threats, rumors and innuendos out
there; security people just can't take ANY chances. Sadly, this also
affects innocent people like you."

What do you think?

This is not good...I really don't like the vibe of that Jeff...one thing I do have for when we meet with them is a copy of the Airways issue that did a feature on MAN's spotting area, I do think that article may sway them a bit when they see what MAN has done for spotters...needless to say I don't expect MAN-like facilities at DEN but it should help demonstrate the irrationality of tossing out spotters...

I'm not too worried neither. I got the same response when I asked for access to the hill even before the orange alert. The "no trespassing" sign has been there for a long time. Obviously, the alert just made things worse.

Hopefully they'll change their minds when they see how nice we all are in person  Innocent

Can't wait for you to get that call Jeff!

Guys, I'm really out of the loop here because I've been away on travel the past 5 weeks. I'm kinda lost as to what you guys have done, what has been proposed, and what the next step is. Can somebody bring me up to speed via e-mail? Or better yet maybe we can all gather at the Trail Dust sometime this week and talk about this over dinner (my trip this week got cancelled so I'm home for a little bit). I know I haven't been around a while to shoot at my home airport, but I'd still like to know what's going on...

DLKAPA - look outside your house man, the weather is terrible...

Mark, we went to the conoco to talk over it, and we proposed to go in as a group and make them WANT us to stay and take photos and look after the property (so to speak). Officer Romero pulled up and so did the entire 175th squadron (about 4 other vehicles  Big thumbs up) He said that we need to make a proposition to them as a group, and he said he would find the guy in charge of Ops.

That's about it, as for the Trail dust Idea, I'm up for it, but I'm not mobile, so if anything, if you guys decide to go, and my brother goes, I go, other than that, I'm stuck here...

(Hopefully this snow cancells school tomorrow)
