Not quite!! To take such great shots such as Peter's, takes years of experience and thousands of pounds worth of equipment, a beginner picking up a film SLR could not produce the sort of quality that Peter does!

Wietse, have you already converted back to slides after this one?

Thanks for the plug Big grin

Actually I was not quite happy with this scan, somehow the grain came out more strongly and the colors aren't quite right. At the next slideshow I'll pop this one in so we can see it in its full beauty Smile

Tony is so right, you definitely don't need a digital camera to get shots up here. Then again Dan is also right: it takes some experience to get slidescans accepted here, both experience with photography and with scanning/editing.

Martin,

You go shoot some slides in this weather and I'll join you ok?

I do think (as I said earlier) I will have a film body with me loaded with some film. K64 or Provia is yet to be determined  Smile

For those interested, an untouched scan.

I cropped it to remove the black borders and I removed all dust, otherwise unedited.

Nothing  Smile just that I am not converting into anything when looking at this horrible weather!

BTW, for those of you interested, here is a digital RAW file of PH-BFI landing at the same location as Tims shot:

BEWARE: 2,5 MB

EDIT: Take in mind that it was shot using my old lens. (75-300 USMIII)

Neither a film nor a DSLR.  Wink/being sarcastic

Maybe I am missing something here......

I think Tim's big photo has lots of grain. nice shot, but way too "dirty". Wietse's digital RAW is much, much better in quality. The overwing picture in the original post is a great photo though.

I think digital has much potential, but of course there are still going to be those film/slide "purists".

I never said my scan was better in quality than Wietse's RAW file!

Just to make it clear, I didnt post my RAW to make Tims shot (which as a matter of fact is very good for a K64 scan) look bad. Slides are better in all applications, apart from showing them online.

No offence here Wieyse, but your RAW pic look a bit soft and uncut. Do you fix it up?

Martinair,

A RAW is exactly what it is, RAW. It is out of my camera without any editing... Offcourse it looks soft!

This is the final edit of the shot:

The biggest joy of shooting slide is when you get them back from the lab, open it up, look thru your loupe or under light box, especially those full frame action ones, oh boy, the joy is just there, after weeks of wait and you know you finally got the good ones you hope for, nothing beats it....

Cool shot Peter!
