Best Way To Make Prints From Slides

Sat Jan 17, 2004 1:25 am

Hello guys,

I have some slides & would like to have good prints on photographic paper. Do you have any advice how this can be best achieved? The normal lab service is OK for 10x15cm prints, but as soon you go higher quality sucks a lot (too soft, visible lines). Is it a good idea to scan the slides & give the files to a digital photo finisher like Fujicolor Digital or Photobox? Also, I can remember there was a (rather expensive) fine printing method called Cibachrome. Has anyone made any experience with this? Thanks for your thoughts.

Quality sucks? I did a 20*30 inch print once of a KM25 slide once and it came out gorgeous. That was done at a professional lab though, quite expensive.

Tim, how much was this 20x30 print?

My 20x30 prints weren't done by a professional service. I had the impression they scanned the slides at a low resolution. The softness was obviously caused by the interpolation.

Think it was about 25 euro.

For 8x10's I've been scanning them (slides), burning to CD (or taking them on my SD Card) to a local Pharmacy that does digital prints. They come out perfect! For anything larger, I use The Slide Printer but haven't used them in a long time. Plus they are in the US so that doesn't help you.

Word is, my local Costco does 11x14 digital prints, so will have to see how they look.

I have used the Slide Printer with good results for about 20 years, as recently as last month. As Michael indicates, this applies to US users, however.
