Boeing 747 As A Gate Guard?

Sun Jan 25, 2004 10:32 pm

I was just wondering about this picture

Looks like it is a king size gate guard, although Derek Hellmann claims it a true air-to-air picture! Has he cleverly cloned out the plinth on which the aircraft is placed, just like this F-104?

Just before everybody is nagging at me, I can inform you that I have mail Derek and said "Congratulation" for this fine air-to-air shot!! By the way. It is also his debut shot on A.net!! What can we expect from Mr. Hellmann after this shot?
This proves that one of the key factors in photographing is to be at the right spot at the right moment, and have your camera ready!!

Nice shot by Derek there!  Big thumbs up

I can see what you mean though Erik, with the shadow it looks very close to the ground... the pilot sure got his gear up quick eh!

Cheers!

Knowing Derek quite well as a fellow CO slide shooter, I can say that the way he got that was flying with his friend in a Cessna overhead LAX and with a Canon L lens on his EOS630, nabbed that and another 10 or so shots of it climbing out.
Good to know that slides can still be posted as I get ready to someday get my shots going on this site....

Those are the hills just before the beach at the far west end of the airport. They used to be a great place to watch airplanes from but are now fenced off as a sanctuary for something. (El Segundo Blue Butterfly I think...)

It's real. It looks like Derek might have been flying the Shoreline route towards Santa Monica in a little prop.

The route takes you right over the western edge of the airport.

Please stop yelling about fake photo. If you are reading my comments to the photo, I think I make myself clear that I admire this AIR-TO-AIR shot. What I find interesting is the way the aircraft is as IF it was placed on a plinth as a gate guard aircraft. At least Mr. Mazoori / Rez knows what I mean. I also like the way the aircraft is "struggling" to gain height.
I will also congratulate Derek for the top scorer of the day with over 14.000 views.
Derek, please do a lot more racing back and forth over the runways at LAX in your Cessna!!!!

N178UA.
It is OK. Just to play with the gate guard thought, it could be fun to clone out the plinth on this one and claim it to be an air-to-air shot! Maybe something for www.myaviation.net?

You can not see the pilot as he is down at the cockpit floor, searching for his roadmap!
Thank you for the nice work, Tim
