Canon 28-300LIS - Probably A Great Dslr Complement

Thu Jan 29, 2004 6:01 pm

Hi All,

Just heard word of a March 2004 release of the Canon 28-300LIS lens.
I'm still tossing up between the 100-400LIS and the 70-200 f2.8LIS

I wasn't considering the EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L USM because I am a huge fan of IS (perfect for holding those 300mm+ shots).

I have this link:
http://melba.student.utwente.nl/stephan/temp/canon/28-300L.pdf
as my only info, and it's not even in English.

I was wondering if anyone had heard any further information on this lens.

I think the only drawback is that combining this lens with a 1.4 will certainly give me the reach of the 100-400, but without auto focus on the 10D.

I was quite shocked to use a 300D that managed to auto-focus with my 75-300 f4-5.6 and a 2x teleconvertor. Not the best results, granted... but the maximum aperture fell well short of the 5.6 required on the 10D for auto focus.

Is this one area the 300D was improved?

Thanks
