Heathrow Terminal 3

Sun Feb 08, 2004 3:07 pm

I'm probably going to be flying out of Heathrow this Spring, probably on UA in Coach class. What spotting opportunities will I have while waiting to depart?(I've heard that many of the departures lounges at LHR are windowless, and my prior travels have been out of Terminal 4.)
Thanks!

Hi

I am no means the best expert from flying out of LHR as I always prefer going via AMS!.......but from what I can remember when flying to Australia back in 1999, very limited views can be had while walking to the gate area after check in and security.

The long T3 piers have windows in them and parked aircraft can be seen.......so probably only parked gate shots will be available with the odd taxy out shot behind maybe.

Maybe smeone else could update?

Cheers

I was flying UAL coach class out of LHR last spring, so I can probably help. When you go through the small passage to all gates (not the passage with the people-movers (conveyor belt things)), turn left and walk allllllll the way down to the end of the terminal, and there will be an area with big floor to ceiling windows, good for spotting. I took these shots from this location.

the best part was that there was nobody at that end of the terminal. literally nobody.  Smile

before I got to the end of the terminal, I stopped midway (before I knew I could go further) and took some photos, as well.

Out of interest, what is T1 like at LHR? I'm passing through (MAN-LHR-LCA) on Friday, with a new camera and want to try it out!

Thanks to all for the info and especially the pictures. It's for our 6th Wedding Anniversary, and my wife's already agreed to an early morning wakeup on our departure day for duty free shopping for her and spotting for me. From what I've heard, Terminal 3 should be great for both.
God bless!
